Adecco is currently hiring a full-time detail-oriented and proactive Geotechnical Facilities Engineer – Oil Sands to support the design, construction, and ongoing monitoring of mine or tailings structures in Fort McMurray, AB. This role ensures construction quality, regulatory compliance, and the integrity of geotechnical instrumentation systems, while serving as a key liaison between planning, operations, construction teams, and the Engineer of Record (EOR).

  • Location : Fort McMurray, AB
  • Shift : Monday to Friday, 40 hours a week
  • Job type : Long term contract | Full-time | 18-month contract with possibility of extension

Responsibilities :

  • Ensure construction and operations align with design specifications through regular field tours and inspection of daily plans.
  • Review and archive monitoring reports and QA / QC data; validate and sign off on instrumentation readings.
  • Set and manage trigger levels for instrumentation with EOR; determine remedial actions as required.
  • Support instrumentation planning, installation, and validation; ensure accurate database entry and lab testing completion.
  • Conduct and document regular engineering inspections and dam safety reviews, coordinating with external consultants.
  • Maintain and update O&M and Emergency Response Plans, ensuring annual reviews and regulatory compliance.
  • Prepare annual construction and performance reports, as well as ad-hoc regulatory submissions.
  • Provide technical support to related projects, including PRFs, design change assessments, and scope development.
  • Review design documents and construction drawings; issue IFC packages and support geotechnical board presentations.
  • Monitor infrastructure and material testing around structures, ensuring adherence to specifications and logging deviations.
  • Organize and support internal QA data validation and safety inspections.

Qualifications :

  • 3-7 years of geotechnical experience (oil sands experience is an asset)
  • Candidate must be located or willing to relocate to Fort McMurray
  • An undergraduate degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Geological Engineering
  • P.Eng / APEGA qualified or provincial equivalent is required
  • Experience on design software such as : Microstation, MineScape, AutoCAD, or Vulcan
  • Experience with Microsoft suite (Excel, Word)
  • A strong understanding of geotechnical engineering design, testing, construction and performance
  • Understanding of geotechnical theory and principles including concepts of seepage through soils and slope stability
  • Understanding of geotechnical and materials lab tests such as : Natural Moisture Content, PSD, Hydrometer, Atterberg Limits, Consolidation, Direct Shear, Triaxial, Permeability, Standard and Modified Proctors
  • Knowledge on geotechnical instrumentation – Slope Inclinometers, Piezometers, Pressure Cells, Settlement Monitoring
  • Database management experience is an asset
  • Must be legally eligible to work, and reside in Canada
