Job description

Our client, a major oil and gas producer, is seeking a Facilities Engineer for their field office in Fort McMurray, AB. This contract role follows a 4/3 schedule, with flights provided from Edmonton or Calgary, or shuttle services for local candidates.

Responsibilities:
  1. Communicate regularly with your Business Unit Team to identify engineering support needs.
  2. Monitor project statuses within your value stream; collaborate with the Small Projects Coordinator to prioritize Engineering Work Orders.
  3. Work with Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering during project scoping to ensure clear scope justifications for Engineering Work Orders.
  4. Obtain approval for Authorization for Expenditures (AFE).
  5. Coordinate with engineers, designers, and third-party engineering firms to create error-free Construction Work Packages (CWP).
  6. Review engineering deliverables with Maintenance and Construction Coordinators to ensure practicality and constructibility.
  7. Ensure risk assessments and change management processes are completed for each project.
  8. Manage schedules and budgets for sustaining capital projects.
  9. Support procurement and construction phases of sustaining capital projects.
  10. Develop annual budgets, forecasts, and long-term plans for your area.
  11. Ensure proper project close-out upon completion.
Qualifications:
  • Preferred engineering degree in Mechanical, Civil, Materials, or Metallurgical disciplines.
  • Technologist degree with piping design experience considered.
  • Registered or eligible for registration as a professional engineer in Alberta with APEGA.
  • Project Management Certification (e.g., PMI) is an asset.
Experience:
  • Minimum 4 years of experience; 5-10 years in operational oil and gas facilities with PE designation preferred.
  • Experience working directly with Operations and Maintenance personnel is essential.
  • Experience managing small to mid-sized capital projects is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of WCB and Alberta OH&S regulations.
Competencies:
  • Excellent communication, documentation, leadership, and work ethic.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to facilitate issue resolution within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Self-motivated with a track record of timely delivery.
  • Experience with facilities process safety reviews, including MOC, PHA, HAZOP, and 'What if' analyses.
