Job description

Our client, a major oil and gas producer, is seeking a Facilities Engineer for their field office in Fort McMurray, AB. This is a contract position on a 4/3 schedule. Flights are provided from Edmonton or Calgary, or shuttles are available for local candidates.

Responsibilities:
  1. Communicate regularly with your Business Unit Team to determine engineering support needs.
  2. Understand project statuses and work with the Small Projects Coordinator to prioritize Engineering Work Orders (WOs).
  3. Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering during project scoping to ensure scope justifications are clear.
  4. Obtain approval for Authorization for Expenditures (AFE).
  5. Coordinate with engineers, designers, and third-party firms to create error-free Construction Work Packages (CWPs).
  6. Review engineering deliverables with Maintenance and Construction Coordinators for practicality and constructibility.
  7. Ensure risk assessments and change management are completed for each project.
  8. Manage schedules and budgets for sustaining capital projects.
  9. Support procurement and construction phases of projects.
  10. Develop budgets, forecasts, and long-range plans.
  11. Ensure proper project closeout upon completion.
Qualifications:
  • Engineering Degree preferred (Mechanical, Civil, Materials, or Metallurgical).
  • Technologist Degree with piping design experience considered.
  • Registration or eligibility for registration as a professional engineer in Alberta with APEGA.
  • Project Management Certification (PMI or equivalent) is an asset.
Experience:
  • Minimum 4 years of experience; 5-10 years in operational oil and gas facilities with PE designation preferred.
  • Experience working directly with Operations and Maintenance personnel.
  • Experience managing small to mid-sized capital projects is an asset.
  • Knowledge of WCB and Alberta OH&S regulations.
Competencies:
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and leadership skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to facilitate issue resolution within large teams.
  • Highly motivated, self-managed, and punctual.
  • Experience with facilities process safety reviews (MOC, PHA, HAZOP, etc.).
