Job summary

Stantec is seeking a Geotechnical Engineering Intern for a 12 or 16 month term in Calgary/Edmonton with Calgary base. You will work with a team of engineers and gain hands-on experience in field investigations and design tasks.

You will develop technical skills in geotechnical calculations, reports, and software while benefiting from mentorship and a local and regional support network of engineers.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in 2nd–4th year in a Canadian Bachelor's program in Civil/Geological/Mining Engineering.
  • Availability for a 12- or 16-month internship.
  • Residence in Alberta or willingness to relocate to Alberta.

Responsibilities

  • Assist geotechnical engineers with calculations, field work, and report preparation.
  • Support contract administration activities and quotation requests.
  • Learn to use gINT, GeoStudio, and AutoCAD Civil 3D under senior guidance.
  • Contribute to site investigations, field reviews, and project documentation.

The successful candidate will work closely with a local team of 50 geotechnical engineers based out of Calgary, supported by a wider, regional team of over 200 geotechnical engineers.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Provide general support to engineers within the geotechnical group.
  • Apply knowledge of the general concepts of relevant civil engineering concepts.
  • Perform a variety of tasks which may include geotechnical engineering calculations, field work, contract administration, proposal preparation, obtaining quotes, and preparing basic reports and design criteria for projects.
  • Apply technological skills using commonly used software such Microsoft Word, Excel, gINT, GeoStudio, and AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Perform due diligence and conduct research as required to provide background information to start new projects.

The responsibilities outlined above are a general guideline; however, other responsibilities may be required to meet project and business demands.

  • Residing in Alberta, or willing to relocate
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, gINT, GeoStudio, and AutoCAD Civil 3D is an asset.

Education and Experience

Currently enrolled in their 2nd, 3rd or 4th year in an accredited Canadian Bachelor's in Civil/Geological/Mining Engineering Programwith availability for a 12 or 16 -month internship

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

About the Team

Pay Transparency:In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
