Job summary

Egis Canada is seeking a Geotechnical Field Technician to assist planning, setup and execution of field investigations for Transportation and Rail projects. You will supervise drilling operations, conduct soil sampling, observe site conditions, and support reporting, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to meet objectives on time and within budget.

The role requires a Civil Engineering degree, willingness to travel, ability to work independently, and a valid G‑class driver’s licence;

Qualifications

  • Civil Engineering Degree or Technology Degree is required.
  • Prior site investigation and drilling experience is essential.
  • In-situ geotechnical testing and soils logging experience preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and travel to sites.
  • Proficient in communicating results and observations clearly.
  • Willingness to travel and perform fieldwork across sites.
  • Understanding soil mechanics is an asset; valid G Class licence required.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise geotechnical drilling operations including SPT/CPT testing.
  • Conduct asphalt and concrete coring operations and soil sampling.
  • Observe site conditions and drainage patterns and construction activities.
  • Support laboratory and factual reporting teams with data and notes.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to meet project objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and health & safety rules.

Job Description

The successful candidate will assist in the planning, setup and execution of geotechnical field investigations for Transportation and Rail projects.

  • Supervise geotechnical drilling operations including SPT and CPT testing, in-situ geotechnical testing, soils strata logging and soil sample logging
  • Conduct asphalt and concrete coring operations
  • Observe and record site conditions, drainage patterns and construction operations
  • Support laboratory and factual reporting teams
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver project objectives on time and within budget
  • Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, codes, and health & safety regulations
Qualifications
  • Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology Degree
  • Prior experience in site investigation and drilling operations
  • Experience in observing and conducting in-situ geotechnical testing, recording geotechnical conditions and appropriate sample collection
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to operate handheld drilling equipment and work safely in active roadway construction sites
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Willingness to travel and perform fieldwork, including site investigations and construction monitoring
  • Understanding of geotechnical engineering principles, soil mechanics, and soil identification considered an asset
  • G Class Drivers Licence
