Job summary

Responsibilities

  • Assisting in sample preparation, performing genotyping assays, and analyzing data.
  • Maintaining instruments, such as Thermal Cycler, quantitative PCR, Capillary Electrophoresis, and related devices, including software updates.
  • Maintaining laboratory materials, reagents inventory levels to prevent excess stock, and coordinating the timely supplies.
  • Assisting in organizing and standardizing sample handling procedures to ensure accurate documentation, data recording, and traceability of samples information.
  • Receiving samples submitted by facility users and verifying the sample identification to ensure proper storage and tracking in the laboratory.
  • Carrying out any other related duties as required in keeping with the qualifications and requirements of positions in this classification

Work Hours and Term: This is a part‑time position at 20 hours per week for a term of one year.

Work Performed

The responsibilities will include and extend from the following:

  • Assisting in sample preparation, performing genotyping assays, and analyzing data to interpret experiment results
  • Maintaining instruments, such as Thermal Cycler, quantitative PCR, Capillary Electrophoresis, and any other related devices, including software updates
  • Maintaining laboratory materials, reagents inventory levels to prevent excess stock, and coordinating the timely supplies
  • Assisting in organizing and standardizing sample handling procedures to ensure accurate documentation, data recording, and traceability of samples information
  • Receiving samples submitted by facility users and verifying the sample identification to ensure proper storage and tracking in the laboratory
  • Carrying out any other related duties as required in keeping with the qualifications and requirements of positions in this classification

Consequence of Error/Judgement: Failure to follow procedures and direction will result in incorrect data production and will result in the delay of production of research services to end user and possibly major financial losses to the service core.

Supervision

Supervision Received: Works under general supervision in carrying out familiar phases of duties and responsibilities; receives additional instructions whether assays are completed or re‑assays are required to solve existing problems.

Supervision Given: May distribute work assignments to students or employees at lower classification level.

Minimum Qualifications

High school graduation, some additional training in a related field and a minimum two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
