The practice focuses on Anatomical and Clinical Pathology, with opportunities in teaching residents and medical students. The successful candidate will participate in surgical autopsy pathology, hematopathology, non-gynecological cytology, and medical biochemistry, share on-call duties, and may engage in leadership development through Interior Health’s NAVIG8

Clinic Details — Royal Inland Hospital

The Royal Inland Hospital (RIH) is a 273-bed facility that serves as the referral centre for approximately 250,000 people, and is located in the Thompson Cariboo Shuswap Health Service Area. As one of two Interior Health tertiary referral hospitals, RIH is a no refusal centre with an Emergency Department that receives over 250 major trauma and 62,000 visits per year.

Kamloops offers high-level, specialty medical care including core physician specialties, 24-hour Emergency and Trauma Services, Ambulatory and Outpatient Clinics, and Diagnostic Services. Specialty services include Acute Inpatient Psychiatry, Tertiary Inpatient and Community Psychiatric Services, non-interventional Cardiology, Infectious Disease, Neurology, Gastroenterology and others. Support services include: a full complement of diagnostic equipment, a Clinical Neurophysiology Lab and Sleep Lab, 1.5T MRI, and CT scan, and Echocardiography. RIH also features TPA Stroke, Stroke Thrombolysis, and provincial Tertiary Neuropsychiatry Programs. RIH is the regional base for the six-person, 24-hour High Acuity Response Team (HART) that is utilized in remote emergency transport situations. Surgical services include General Surgery, Neurosurgery, Vascular Surgery, Otolaryngology, Plastic Surgery, Urology, Obstetrics and Gynecology, and 24/7 Anesthesia coverage.

Practice Details

Our growing team is seeking full-time General Pathologists to join Kamloops Pathology Associates Ltd. We are based at the Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops, B.C. and primarily provides Anatomical and Clinical Pathology Services within the Thompson Cariboo Shuswap Health Service Area of the Interior Health Laboratory System.

The successful candidate(s) will be joining an onsite collegial group of ten other laboratory physicians (nine general/anatomical and one medical microbiologist) reporting to the Area Laboratory Medical Director/Department Head. We can provide strong mentorship for a new graduate.

Duties will include: participation in general surgical/autopsy pathology, hematopathology (including transfusion medicine), non-gynecological cytology, and medical biochemistry. Equal participation in the departmental on-call rota, committee work, and some limited regional lab oversight is expected. You will receive 8 weeks of vacation annually.

Anatomical pathologist applicants with additional experience in clinical pathology will also be considered.

The site is closely linked to the University of British Columbia’s Faculty of Medicine, so teaching residents and medical students is also possible.

Benefits and Incentives

Relocation Funding Available $9,000 for moves within BC, 12,000 for moves within Canada, and 15,000 for those relocating from outside Canada, subject to maximum amounts and eligible receipts.
