Make a difference where every second counts. If you're a stroke neurologist dedicated to the fast-paced, decisive world of stroke care, KGH is where you belong. Join our highly collegial team of talented professionals at Kelowna General Hospital’s Stroke Network. The KGH stroke team serves as the main referral hub for Interior Health, with a catchment population of approximately one million people. Each year, we manage approximately 2,000 acute ischemic strokes and perform over 120 endovascular procedures. Our Stroke Program has achieved some of the best outcomes in Canada, providing residents of the BC Interior with the care they need. With a long history of virtual care, we support the entire continuum of stroke management across the region. Our group of 11 includes stroke, movement disorders, headache, and neuromuscular specialists, as well as general neurologists. Complementing this team, we have five specialized stroke nurses and a dedicated stroke unit. Our integrated team environment emphasizes program development and innovative service delivery. If you’re comfortable managing all aspects of complex stroke care and pushing the boundaries of what is possible in rural and remote areas, we want to hear from you. Here, you’ll have the opportunity to experience the rewards of clinical teaching, working with 3rd- and 4th-year medical students from the UBC Southern Medical Program. You’ll also engage with Family Medicine and Emergency Medicine residents and visiting residents from other locations. Beyond teaching, our team participates in multiple stroke trials, both nationally and locally, while developing innovative solutions for underrepresented rural and remote populations. Leadership development opportunities are available through Interior Health’s NAVIG8 Program.

KELOWNA GENERAL HOSPITAL

Kelowna General Hospital (KGH), one of BC's leading healthcare centres, is one of two tertiary hospitals within Interior Health. We offer a full range of services with approximately 400 beds and over 84,000 emergency department visits a year. Home to the Interior Heart & Surgical Centre (IHSC), KGH houses BC’s only cardiac critical care centre outside of Victoria and the Lower Mainland, as well as its principal surgical site. The IHSC features 12 specialized operating rooms designed for thoracic, urology, neurosurgery, vascular, plastic, obstetric/gynecologic, ear, nose, and throat, orthopedic, general, and trauma surgeries. Of these, two operating rooms are dedicated to cardiac surgery. Within the IHSC, KGH also has a modern maternity ward and an adjacent neonatal intensive care unit. Our state-of-the-art Centennial Building boasts 360,000 square feet and includes an expanded emergency and ambulatory care department, new medical inpatient units, modern operating rooms, and a rooftop helipad. Additional facilities include a dedicated pediatric ward, as well as adolescent and adult psychiatry units. The Dr. Walter Anderson Building houses enhanced laboratory and clinical departments, supporting advanced diagnostic and treatment capabilities. KGH is also a teaching centre for the Southern Medical Program, affiliated with the University of British Columbia (UBC), and has an academic campus that serves as a satellite for the UBC Faculty of Medicine.

Compensation

Compensation Type Fee-for-Service Estimated Remuneration Annual billings of $400,000-$600,000 can be expected for a full-time commitment, based on a combination of hospital-based and community practice. Actual income will vary depending on clinical activity and call participation.

Benefits and Incentives

Relocation Funding Available $9,000 for moves within BC, 12,000 for moves within Canada, and 15,000 for those relocating from outside Canada, subject to maximum amounts and eligible receipts.
