Job summary

About You / What We Are Looking For

We are seeking a dynamic, experienced General Office Supervisor to join our Police Services team at the Coquitlam RCMP detachment. This position will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day administrative operations of the front counter and general administration team within the detachment. Working in a fast-paced, demanding but fun environment, the successful incumbent will be expected to manage multiple priorities with competing deadlines; carry out tasks and identify priorities with little supervision or direction; exercise sound decision making; and demonstrate tact, diplomacy and political acumen in a local government setting. This is a CUPE Local 386 position. Reporting to the Manager Police Community Services, the successful incumbent will be required to plan, supervise and provide direction to a moderately large group of subordinates in several units engaged in operational functions within the detachment. This includes front counter staff, traffic clerk positions, stenographers, security clearance specialists and other related administrative positions. Supervisory responsibilities include but are not limited to preparing shift schedules, participating in the recruitment and selection of subordinates, provide training to new staff and ensure ongoing review of staff work for accuracy, providing any necessary performance feedback and setting of expectations.

A strong understanding of the various systems used within the RCMP detachment, including the methods, principles and practice used in the operation of PRIME, CIIDS, PIRS, OSR and CPIC systems will be key for this role in ensuring the accuracy of work completed. This position will also be responsible for exercising of final judgment in a wide variety of office management problems, dealing with escalating issues or inquiries both internally and externally. The ideal candidate is driven to achieve excellence in customer services; has proven abilities to exercise sound judgement and leadership, especially as it related to problem solving; strategic and analytical thinking; strong verbal and written skills; is highly collaborative and functions well as a multi-disciplinary team and has the ability to deliver on a wide range of responsibilities with little supervision.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have completed Grade 12, supplemented with relevant courses and related supervisory experience or an equivalent or training and experience. Working knowledge of the Criminal Code of Canada, and other applicable federal and provincial statutes enforced by the RCMP are also necessary for this role. Previous supervisory or leadership experience is essential.

This CUPE position has an hourly rate range of $41.91 - $49.34 (2026 rates). The rate of pay is based on a variety of factors including qualifications, knowledge, experience and skills.
