Job description

TCI Canada GENERAL MANAGER

Perform functions to manage the day-to-day operations of the TC Canada facilities, including manufacturing, production control, and office administration.

Under administrative direction:

  1. Review customer business activities by analyzing trends, seasonality, and industry data to help determine the steel purchasing and manufacturing strategies of the company.
  2. Establish and assist in setting company goals, monitor progress, and recommend programs to achieve these goals.
  3. Assist the sales department during meetings with OEM customers by providing technical information and scheduling timelines.
  4. Ensure the execution of special projects and assignments directed by the president.
  5. Oversee all aspects of production, establish master schedules, resolve manufacturing problems, and assist employees in their assignments.
  6. Develop, implement, and enforce company work rules and policies for TCIC/TCIC(W).
  7. Manage annual physical inventories and reporting processes.
  8. Maintain knowledge of technology related to computerization.
  9. Establish and prepare personnel for management succession programs.
  10. Prepare operating and capital budgets and define methods to achieve desired results.
  11. Report sales, costs, and profitability results monthly to the company president.
  12. Set objectives to control major cost items and ensure methods are in place to achieve them.
  13. Communicate company business aspects to employees at least four times per year.
  14. Establish, document, and maintain a quality system based on the ISO 9000 program.
  15. Prioritize safety to ensure a safe and healthy work environment.

Responsible for managing all employees in TCIC/TCIC(W) through subordinate supervisors and managers. Hires, trains, assists employees, enforces policies, establishes performance standards, and evaluates employee performance.

Perform other related duties as assigned. Reports to: Vice President of Worldwide Operations.

KNOWLEDGE:

Broad knowledge of a discipline such as business, equivalent to a complete college or university education.

EXPERIENCE:

Over 7 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES:

Manage highly involved and technical projects, requiring broad conceptual judgment to direct manufacturing activities and make decisions with little precedent.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Establish own performance standards within overall policy and budgetary limits, with accountability for results, including sales goals.

ERRORS:

Major errors may involve significant expenditures or loss of important customer accounts, often due to poor representation or decision-making.

CONTACTS WITH OTHERS:

Interact with internal personnel, customers, and executive management, requiring diplomacy and influencing skills to maintain business relationships.

CONFIDENTIAL DATA:

Work with confidential information such as financial statements and proprietary business data, which must be protected.

MENTAL AND/OR VISUAL DEMAND:

Continuous mental and visual attention is required for managing company operations.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Generally good, with occasional exposure to elements like odour, chemicals, dust, and noise.

CHARACTER OF SUPERVISION:

Directs and coordinates operations through subordinate supervisors, setting standards and ensuring policies are implemented.

SCOPE OF SUPERVISION:

Supervises between 50 and 100 personnel.
