Job description

Perform functions to manage the day-to-day operations of the TC Canada facilities, including manufacturing, production control, and office administration.

Under administrative direction:

  1. Review customer business activities by analyzing trends, seasonality, and industry data to help determine the steel purchasing and manufacturing strategies of the company.
  2. Establish and/or assist in setting company goals, monitor progress, and recommend programs to achieve these goals.
  3. Assist the sales department during sales meetings with OEM customers by providing technical information and scheduling timelines.
  4. Ensure the execution of special projects and assignments directed by the president.
  5. Direct all aspects of production, establish master schedules, resolve manufacturing problems, and assist employees in their assignments.
  6. Write, implement, and enforce company work rules and policies for TCIC/TCIC(W).
  7. Direct annual physical inventory and reporting processes.
  8. Have knowledge of technology related to computerization.
  9. Establish and prepare personnel for a management succession program.
  10. Prepare operating/capital budgets and define methods to achieve desired results.
  11. Report sales, costs, and profitability results each month to the company president.
  12. Set objectives to control major cost items and ensure methods are in place to achieve them.
  13. Communicate to employees all aspects of the company business at least four times per year.
  14. Establish, document, and maintain a quality system based on the ISO 9000 program.
  15. Insist on attention being given to all matters of safety to provide the best and safest work environment.

Responsible for managing all employees in TCIC/TCIC(W) through subordinate supervisors and managers. Hires, trains, assists employees, enforces company policies, establishes performance standards, and evaluates employee performance.

GENERAL MANAGER

KNOWLEDGE:

Broad knowledge of a discipline such as business, equivalent to a complete college or university education.

EXPERIENCE:

Over 7 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES:

Manage highly involved and technical projects, overseeing the day-to-day operations of manufacturing, production control, and office administration. Requires broad conceptual judgment to direct manufacturing activities and make decisions with little precedent.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Under administrative direction, establish own standards of performance within overall policy and budgetary limits, with direct accountability for final results, including sales goals.

ERRORS:

Probable errors may involve major expenditures, resulting in the loss of important customer accounts or poor representation at sales meetings.

CONTACTS WITH OTHERS:

Dealing with and influencing persons in various positions, including TC Canada personnel, customers, and executive management, requiring high diplomacy to maintain customer relationships.

CONFIDENTIAL DATA:

Work involves handling confidential data such as financial statements and proprietary business information, where disclosure could be detrimental to the organization.

MENTAL AND/OR VISUAL DEMAND:

Continuous mental and visual attention is required to manage company operations.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Good working conditions with occasional exposure to elements such as odour, chemicals, dust, and noise.

CHARACTER OF SUPERVISION:

Directs and coordinates the operation of departments through subordinate supervisors, setting performance standards, monitoring progress, and ensuring policy adherence.

SCOPE OF SUPERVISION:

Supervises between 50 and 100 persons.
