Job description

Ultimate Canada is seeking nominations for the Ultimate Canada Board of Directors.

Board InformationThere are 5 board positions up for election:

  • Treasurer (Executive committee) (1)
  • Director-at-large (2)

Note: Nominees may run for an executive committee position (vice-president or treasurer) or athlete representative position and a director-at-large position, but can only hold one.The executive committee positions will be selected first, followed by the athlete representative positions, then the director-at-large positions.

  • Experience areas include organizational management, project management, board management, league management, and communications

  • Top areas of need for experience: national team (athlete position), legal, risk management, and financial (treasurer position)
  • Regional diversity: Currently do not have a board member from the prairies (AB, SK, MB)
  • Equity-deserving groups: Currently do not have a board member who identifies as being from an equity-deserving group

What are the time commitments involved with being on the UC board?
The Ultimate Canada board of directors meets 10-11 times per year by Zoom with 1 in-person meeting. Meetings are usually 1-2 hours in length. Quorum is 6 board members (9 on board) so it is important that board members are able to attend a majority of meetings. Materials for board member review are distributed before the meeting. There is an average of 1-2 hours of added work/month in reviewing board materials and online discussions. Board members also have the optional opportunity to get involved on board standing committees and sub-committees. The board will have one in-person meeting on Friday, November 7th in Toronto, Ontario. This meeting occurs before the Ultimate Canada Conference (UCC). Travel and accommodation costs for board members are covered by the organization for the in-person meeting and the UCC.

  • Vice President - TheVice Presidentwill support the administration of the Board and staff, will preside at meetings of Members and at meetings of the Board in absence of the President, will have signing authority, and will perform such other duties as may from time to time be established by the Board.

  • Treasurer - TheTreasurerwill see that proper accounting records as required by the Act are kept, will ensure all monies received by the Corporation are deposited into the Corporation's bank account, chair the audit committee, when requested will provide the Board with an account of financial transactions and the financial position of the Corporation, and will perform such other duties as may from time to time be established by the Board
  • Athlete representative - means a person currently on a national team or competing at the international level or a person who is retired and was a member of a senior national team not more than three (3) years prior to being first elected to the Board.

Eligibility to be a Director:

  • Any person, who is 18 years of age or older, who has the power under law to contract, who has not been declared incapable by a court in Canada or in another country, and who does not have the status of bankrupt, may be nominated for election as a Director.

Terms:
All terms are for 2 years.

When does the election take place?
Board positions will be elected at the 2025 Ultimate Canada Annual General Meeting that takes place on June 23rd, 2025 at 8 pm EDT via Zoom.
