Job summary

Northern College in Timmins, ON is hiring a General Maintenance Worker to support full‑time groundskeeping, equipment operation, and building maintenance. The role includes performing repairs, HVAC and plumbing tasks, and assisting with safety inspections, with a 40‑hour workweek and a starting salary around the posted payband.

The position is a leave replacement, requires a minimum two years in large building maintenance, a valid G license, and safety certifications.

Qualifications

• One year certificate in a relevant field.
• Minimum two years of experience in large building maintenance, mobile equipment, small engine repairs, air compressors, and hydraulics.
• Valid Class G driver’s licence and safe driving record.
• WHMIS and First Aid/CPR/AED training required.

Responsibilities

• Perform general groundskeeping duties including snow removal and lawn mowing.
• Operate plant equipment such as tractors and walk‑behind machines.
• Repair interior and exterior finishes through planned or demand maintenance tasks.
• Carry out minor plumbing maintenance and routine HVAC/refrigeration checks.
• Move materials, supplies, and equipment as needed for operations.
• Conduct monthly inspections of safety systems and firefighting equipment.

What You Will Be Doing

• Perform general groundskeeping duties such as snow removal and lawn mowing
• Operate all types of plant equipment, including tractors, walk-behind equipment, and vehicles
• Maintain and repair damaged or deteriorated interior and exterior building finishes through demand work orders or planned preventative maintenance, such as floor and ceiling repairs, drywall repairs, and minor window and door repairs, including caulking
• Perform minor plumbing maintenance
• Perform routine maintenance on HVAC equipment, refrigeration equipment, and small appliances
• Pick up and deliver materials and supplies and move equipment and furniture
• Perform monthly inspections of fire extinguishers, standpipe systems, fire hydrants, emergency telephones, first aid kits, and eyewash stations

The successful candidate will be able to work as part of a team and independently, and must have carpentry, plumbing, and welding skills, as well as troubleshooting skills.
