Job summary

FortisBC is seeking an Equipment Operator/Distribution Assistant in Vernon, BC to learn and assist in the construction, maintenance and operation of the Gas Distribution system. You will learn welding and pipefitting, and be trained in safety, customer service and software applications while gaining hands-on experience for future advancement.

The role involves operating backhoe and related equipment, performing repairs, and supporting emergency response efforts within a safety‑driven,

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required.
Hold a Class 1 Driver’s Licence with a clean driving record.
Demonstrated ability to proficiently operate a backhoe near underground utilities.
Ability to perform running maintenance on backhoes and related equipment.
Able to meet the public as a representative of FortisBC and work safely in all weather.

Responsibilities

Learn to install distribution pipes, fittings, and related components.
Assist in operation and maintenance of the Gas Distribution system.
Receive hands‑on training in welding, pipefitting, safety, and software applications.
Support in emergency response and customer service duties.
Travel/out-of-town training and on-call duties may be required.
