Job summary

FortisBC is seeking a Customer Service Technician in Sechelt, BC to ensure safe and efficient operation of gas-burning equipment and infrastructure. You will serve residential and commercial customers, perform troubleshooting, and maintain gas distribution systems.

The role emphasizes public safety, adherence to regulations, and strong communication skills, with a requirement for a Gas B ticket and a valid driver’s license. The position offers a full-time schedule and competitive compensation.

Qualifications

• High school graduation.
• A valid Gas B Ticket (TSBC) or Utility ticket or equivalent.
• Demonstrated safe work habits and adherence to safety regulations.
• Demonstrated planning and organizing skills.
• Demonstrated written and oral communication skills, ability to absorb, follow and retain verbal and written instructions.
• Demonstrated proficient computer skills.
• Demonstrated knowledge of theory and operation of material and equipment relating to gas distribution work.
• Demonstrated proficiency in the use of tools, equipment and instruments.
• Demonstrated ability to exercise judgment, act on own initiative and work independently maintaining a high level and quality of performance.
• Ability to meet the public as a representative of FortisBC.
• Ability to prepare summaries, reports and complete work orders, etc., quickly and accurately.
• A valid class 5 driver’s license

Responsibilities

• Ensure public safety and customer service in daily operations.
• Troubleshoot gas burning equipment and control media to identify safety issues.
• Exercise judgment to suspend or remediate service with proper follow-up.
• Construct, test and certify piping installations and metering to standards.
• Provide repair/adjustment service for residential and commercial equipment.
• Install and maintain gas measurement and pressure regulation equipment.
• Perform tests related to gas utilization and analyze combustion products.
• Investigate gas leaks on emergency basis and act to protect the public.
