Job summary

Responsibilities

  • Work as a Crew Member on construction, operations and maintenance of gas systems.
  • Operate and maintain tracked excavators, crawler tractors, sidebooms and other equipment.
  • Perform maintenance on PE fusion equipment and mainline valve sites.
  • Excavate and expose live pipelines while maintaining safety around high-pressure lines.
  • Troubleshoot and repair equipment where possible and keep up with standard procedures.
  • Operate stations manually as directed to maintain optimal pressures and flow.

Job description

Pacific Northern Gas Ltd. (PNG), a subsidiary of TriSummit Utilities Inc., owns and operates natural gas transmission and distribution systems in British Columbia's lower Peace River, west central, and north coast regions. PNG's western transmission line extends from the Enbridge gas transmission system north of Prince George along the Highway 16 and Highway 37 south corridors to Terrace and then onto the port communities of Kitimat and Prince Rupert, providing transportation and gas services to twelve communities and a number of industrial facilities. In the Province's northeast, Pacific Northern Gas (N.E.) Ltd. provides gas transmission and distribution service in the Dawson Creek, Fort St. John and Tumbler Ridge areas.

Our Construction and Maintenance Department has an immediate opening for a qualified Equipment Operator to join our team in Terrace, B.C. reporting to the Superintendent, Construction & Maintenance.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Work as a Crew Member engaged in construction, operations and maintenance of natural gas transmission and distribution systems.
  • Drive, operate and change all attachments and perform running maintenance on tracked excavators, crawler tractors, and sidebooms in order to construct and maintain rights-of-way and roads.
  • Drive, operate and change all attachments and do running maintenance on any of the rubber-tired equipment used on the gas transmission and distribution system, such as hydraulically operated backhoe and front end loaders, "Hiab" on 5 Ton Flat Deck Trucks and transportation equipment.
  • Maintain a good working knowledge of the maintenance and operation of all PE fusion equipment.
  • Excavate and expose live high-pressure pipelines using tracked excavators.
  • Identify, troubleshoot and repair, where possible, problems on equipment.
  • Perform maintenance on mainline valves including blow down of valve sites.
  • Perform mechanical maintenance and emergency repairs in remote areas.
  • Operate stations manually under the direction of Measurement or Management personnel, to provide the optimum pressures and flow.
  • Keep abreast of new developments in construction and maintenance and have a good working knowledge of all Standard Practice Instructions and Operating and Maintenance Standard Procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent education.
  • Appropriate Driver's License for equipment operated. (Class 1, Required)
  • Demonstrated competence in the safe, efficient and effective operation and maintenance of tracked excavators, crawler tractors, sidebooms, etc. and a proven ability to safely operate heavy equipment close to high pressure gas lines.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to work long hours in adverse weather and terrain conditions.
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to identify, troubleshoot and repair, where possible, problems on equipment.

This position is within the bargaining unit (IBEW). Hourly wage: $48.41
