Job summary

GoodLeaf Farms is seeking a Functional Lead to oversee seeding operations and related sanitation and safety activities. This role requires hands-on leadership in a manufacturing environment, ensuring accuracy in production documentation and adherence to GMPs.

You will supervise and mentor VFTs, coordinate breaks, and support continuous improvement projects while maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient seeding area. English and/or French communication skills are essential.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Experience in agriculture, food processing, or manufacturing is preferred.
  • Ability to stand for long periods, lift up to 50 lbs, and work at heights with safety training.
  • Demonstrated reliability, strong work ethic, and low absenteeism.
  • Post-secondary education is an asset but not required.
  • Mechanical aptitude and comfort with industrial equipment are valued.
  • Good communication in English and/or French is needed.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure appropriate food safety practices are followed.
  • Follow GMPs and safety policies.
  • Operate seeding line equipment and manage shifts.
  • Maintain accurate production documentation and KPI data.
  • Train and mentor new team members in seeding areas.
  • Support LEAN/TPM initiatives and continuous improvement.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization (5S) in the seeding area.
  • Coordinate breaks and shift end activities with supervision.

Job description

Full time/permanentRotating schedules : 7am to 7pm or 10am to 10pm

The Functional lead will perform general duties requiredon the farm. They work under the guidance of the Supervisor, or their designate in the production area they are assigned to. The functional lead will have the following responsibilities

Responsibilities (but not limited to…):

Operations:

  • Ensure appropriate food safety practices are adhered to
  • Follow GoodLeafFarmsFood SafetyPolicy
  • Work hands-on to ensure scheduled seeding production and Horticulture trials are completed daily.
  • Set up, change over, and operate seeding line equipment during scheduled shifts.
  • Ensure production documentation is completed with accuracy and attention to detail based on expectations of metrics and KPIs from the organization.
  • Instruct Seeding-assigned VFT’s to efficiently coordinate production efforts and end of shift duties.
  • Participate in the improvement of seeding practices and development of SOP’s.
  • Train and mentor new VFT’s in the seeding areas while maintaining high quality standards.
  • Operate the germ room simultaneously to ensure proper bench movements in a timely manner.
  • Support the implementation of LEAN Manufacturing/TPM
  • Monitor and control waste, downtown, efficiency and OEE.
  • Be responsible and accountable for the KPI/metrics of the seeding area by monitoring and recording the proper data.
  • Actively collaborate in the implementation of continuous improvements project in the area
  • Maintain the area clean and organized during and at the end of the shift (5S)
  • Perform light and basic maintenance to the equipment (calibration, adjustments, etc.)
  • Adhere to the GMP and H&S requirements in the area and monitor teammates for the same.
  • Prepare the seeding area for the next day production by providing appropriate assistance (soaking jute)
  • Be assistive of the maintenance performing work in the germ/grow room whenever needed.
  • Manage and monitor break coverage for the seeding team in accordance to the company’s policy
  • Run the germination room to ensure proper movement of benches as per the schedule on a timely manner.
  • Assist the Supervisor or Team Lead in coordinating the breaks for the seeding VFTs
  • Ensure compliance with End of Shifts activities as scheduled by the Supervisor

Sanitation:

  • Adhere, safeguard, and comply with the Standard Sanitization Operating Procedures, Standard Operation Procedures, Occupational Health and Safety Act and Good Manufacturing Practice at all times without exception.
  • Ensure the safe use and storage of all cleaning supplies.
  • Collect and remove garbage and ensure the safe disposal of hazardous waste.
  • Ensure that any work conducted is aligned with sanitation procedures and programs and in compliance with GMPs practices and GoodLeaf Farm standards.
  • Regularly be on the look and advise Farm leadership of any sanitization deviations observed.
  • Conduct cleaning and sanitizing tasks proactively to ensure all farm areas are well maintained to operating producers during and after hours, including but not limited to scrubbing, washing, vacuuming, and disinfecting to ensure that the farm is clean at all times

Safety:

  • Always adhere to safety rules and regulations and enforce compliance of VFTs within organization and lead by example.
  • Protect the safety of all VFT’s by following safe work practices.
  • Adhere, safeguard and comply with the Standard Sanitization Operating Procedures, Standard Operation Procedures, Occupational Health and Safety Act and Good Manufacturing Practice at all times.

  • Report unsafe and faulty equipment, fixtures, and processes to supervisor

Qualifications & Educational Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Previous experience in agriculture, food processing, or manufacturing
  • Able to stand for long periods of time, lift objects of 50lbs, and work at heights if applicable (safety training provided)
  • Demonstrated professional reliability, a strong work ethic, and minimal absenteeism
  • Completion of post-secondary education is an asset but education or certification in a relevant field is preferred
  • Mechanical aptitude and some level of comfort with industrial equipment and tools
