Job summary

Maple Leaf Foods in Ontario, Canada is seeking a Production Supervisor to coordinate daily production across multiple lines, directing an hourly workforce to meet targets while upholding safety, food safety, and quality standards.

You will lead by example, promote a safety-first culture, and drive continuous improvement in a fast-paced environment. This role offers incentive opportunities and benefits as part of a supportive team.

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of supervisory experience in manufacturing.
  • Post-secondary education in Operations Management is a plus.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Plan manpower daily/weekly to meet production targets and yield goals.
  • Manage production lines and transitions between SKUs.
  • Ensure health and safety of employees per procedures and legislation.
  • Prepare production and progress reports and document safety/quality issues.
  • Coach and motivate employees with HR support; resolve conflicts and monitor performance.

The Opportunity:

Production supervisors coordinate daily production in a multi-line, fast paced food production facility through the direction of an hourly workforce to achieve daily operating goals while maintaining all company safety objectives, Food Safety and customer quality specifications. You will provide leadership and guidance to our team members. You lead by example and inspire your team to deliver top results. You are passionate about safety and promote a culture where people safety and food safety come first. You thrive in an environment that is fast paced and have a keen sense for continuous improvement. Your approach is collaborative and offers a forum where everyone feels comfortable to bring forward new ideas.

Compensation: $62,000 – $91,000 CAD base pay annually


The above compensation reflects the target compensation for the position at the time of posting. The base salary offered may vary based on a variety of factors including skills, experience, education, training, job- related knowledge, and other organizational requirements. For part-time roles, salaries are adjusted according to scheduled hours. In addition to base salary, this role is eligible to participate in Maple Leaf’s annual short-term incentive plan.


Snapshot of a Day-in-the-Life:


  • Plans manpower requirements on a daily and weekly basis in order to achieve production volumes, takes ownership for product quality and standards, and yield and efficiency targets

  • Manage the production lines and transitioning to various SKUs

  • Ensures health and safety of employees in accordance with established safe work procedures, company policies, and applicable provincial legislation

  • Prepares production and progress reports

  • Oversee and document all plant Health & Safety, Food Safety, Quality Assurance and Sanitation issues

  • Manage first point in contact with assigned hourly employees in respect to any concerns, suggestions, health and safety, and quality improvements

  • Develop, direct, manage, train and motivate employees by communicating job expectations, appraising job results, coaching, counselling and disciplining employees in conjunction with the Human Resources Department

  • Foster a positive employee relations culture by treating all employees with respect, listening to their concerns and provide a timely response where needed

  • Ensures that company quality, efficiency, and production objectives are achieved in the areas under their supervision by establishing or adjusting work procedures as required


What You’ll Bring:


  • High school Diploma or equivalent

  • 3-5 years of supervisory or related leadership experience preferably in a manufacturing environment

  • Post-secondary education in Operations Management or related field is an asset

  • Ability to work as a team with all functional areas to support a common goal

  • Computer proficiency in email, spreadsheets, and able to learn other software programs (Kronos, SAP, etc.)

  • Effective communication skills to lead, motivate, coach, mentor and resolve employee conflict

  • Self-starter with good analytical, troubleshooting, and problem solving skills

  • Continuous learner and willingness to embrace change

  • Flexible to cover other Production Supervisors as needed
