Job summary

Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board is seeking a Permanent Educational Assistant to support students with special needs in elementary and secondary settings. The role is full-time for 35 hours weekly over 10 months, starting immediately.

You will work closely with teachers, assist in delivering lessons, manage routines, and help with daily care tasks such as feeding and toileting when required. Preference given to candidates in the casual Educational Assistant pool.

Qualifications

• Post-secondary Educational Assistant program (about 1 year) or equivalent, plus at least 1 year working with children.
• Additional training is an asset.
• Willingness to perform toilet and lifting tasks.
• Positive, empathetic attitude toward students.
• Discretion with confidential information.
• Ability to work independently within a team.
• Basic knowledge of computer software.

Responsibilities

• Assist in delivering a program for students with special needs, in individual and small-group settings.
• Help with transitions from home to school.
• Serve as a liaison between students and teachers.
• Attend meetings and take notes as required.
• Assist in creating teaching materials under teacher direction.
• Support implementation of individualized education plans.
• Observe and report on student development and behavior to teachers.
• Participate in behavior management and crisis de-escalation.
• Assist with feeding and washroom needs as required.
• Help maintain classroom routines and plan field trips.
• Support general classroom tasks and materials preparation.
• Other related duties as assigned.
