Job summary

The Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board is seeking an Educational Assistant for a 10-month, full-time position (1.0 FTE) with start date immediate. Qualifications

• Post-secondary Educational Assistant program (1 year) or equivalent, plus 1 year experience with children.
• Asset: relevant additional training.
• Willingness to perform physical tasks including toileting and lifting.
• Demonstrated positive and empathetic attitude towards students.
• Ability to keep information confidential and exercise discretion.
• Ability to work independently within a team.
• Basic knowledge of common computer software.

Responsibilities

• Assist in delivering programs for special needs students, in individual or group settings.
• Aid children transitioning from home to school.
• Serve as liaison between students and teacher.
• Attend meetings and take notes as required.
• Assist teacher in creating crafts and teaching materials under supervision.
• Support Individualized Education Plans for students.
• Observe and report on student progress and behavior to the teacher.
• Assist with behavior management, crisis intervention and de-escalation when needed.
• Assist students with feeding and toileting as required.
• Maintain classroom routines and rules.
• Help plan and implement field trips for special needs students.
• Support teacher and pupils with general classroom tasks such as copying, displays, and supplies.
