Job summary

Algonquin College is seeking a Professor in Wellness to teach Veterinary Technician programs on-site at the Woodroffe Campus. The salary range is CAD 77,153 to CAD 133,752 per year, with a 44-hour week and an anticipated start date of December 14, 2026.

The incumbent will guide learning, create effective environments, and deliver instruction across Summer, Fall, and Winter terms, while collaborating with administrators, industry partners, and faculty to support student success.

Qualifications

  • Registered Veterinary Technician designation is required.
  • Minimum of 5 years teaching in a postsecondary setting.
  • Minimum of 5 years as a Registered Veterinary Technician, including clinical & surgical experience.
  • Knowledge of student success strategies in a postsecondary setting.
  • Experience with educational technologies; hybrid/online curriculum a plus.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and organizational skills.
  • Able to adapt to change.
  • Commitment to the success of all learners.

Responsibilities

  • Consult with program/course administrators, advisory committees, employers and students.
  • Define learning outcomes and evaluate/validate these outcomes.
  • Specify learning approaches and required resources.
  • Incorporate educational technologies to meet 21st century learning needs.
  • Review and revise curriculum; engage in professional development.
  • Deliver regular instruction in Summer, Fall, or Winter terms for Vet Tech programs.
  • Ensure students understand learning outcomes and evaluation techniques.
  • Provide tutoring and academic advising for students, in and out of class.
  • Utilize resources including educational technologies to create a learning environment.
  • Evaluate student progress and oversee course assessment.
  • Develop a learning environment conducive to success for all students.
  • Guide students, instructors, and part-time professors regarding teaching assignments.
  • Participate in curriculum/department/college committees and meetings.
  • Liaise with community, promote programs; stay current with teaching trends.

Job Description

Salary range is $77,153 to $133,752, established in terms of relevant educational qualifications and experience. Under the direction of the Chair, Wellness Research & Innovation, the Professor is responsible for facilitating and guiding learning and providing an effective learning environment for all students.

Responsibilities
  • consulting with program and course administrators and other faculty members, advisory committees and a variety of potential employers and students;
  • defining learning outcomes and evaluating and validating these outcomes;
  • specifying and approving learning approaches, necessary resources, etc;
  • incorporating educational technologies to meet the learning needs of 21st Century students;
  • reviewing and revising curriculum and participating in professional development activities during non-teaching periods.
  • delivery of regularly scheduled instruction in the Summer, Fall, or Winter terms in both the Veterinary Technician and Veterinary Assistant programs;
  • ensuring student awareness of course learning outcomes and evaluation techniques;
  • providing tutoring and academic advising for students both in and out of class;
  • providing a learning environment which makes effective use of available resources including educational technologies;
  • evaluating student progress/achievement and assuming responsibility for the overall assessment of the student’s work within assigned courses;
  • the development and creation of a learning environment that is conducive to success for all students.
  • providing guidance to students, to instructors, and to part‑time professors relative to the professor’s teaching assignments;
  • participating in the work of curriculum and other consultative committees, and departmental/ faculty meetings;
  • liaising with community members, engaging in program, Department, School, and College promotion;
  • remaining current in the field of study and maintaining awareness of emerging trends and practices related to teaching and learning in higher education;

Required Qualifications
  • Registered Veterinary Technician Designation required;
  • Minimum of 5years of teaching experience in a postsecondary setting;
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Registered Veterinary Technician, including clinical and surgical experience;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of student success strategies in a postsecondary setting;
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the use of educational technologies; experience in the development and delivery of hybrid and online curriculum would be considered an asset;
  • Highly effective communication, presentation, and organizational skills;
  • Demonstrated flexibility and ability to adapt to change;
