Job summary

Algonquin College of Applied Arts and Technology is seeking an academic leader to manage the Information & Communications Technology – Security, Systems & Networking department. The Chair will guide faculty, staff and students and ensure the department’s programs align with strategic goals and community needs.

Job Description

The Chair is responsible for providing academic leadership in the management and administration of faculty, support staff and students in the Information & Communications Technology – Security, Systems & Networking department.

The Chair is accountable for the planning, development, delivery and financial viability of the Department’s full-time post-secondary courses and for ensuring that these programs and courses are responsive and relevant to the needs of the students for the community at large in accordance with the College’s Strategic Plan.

The Chair is also responsible for the provision of relevant service courses in IT/Computing technology.

Required Qualifications

Education Master’s degree in a related field required; Minimum of four (4) year degree in Computing Science, Information Systems or related field.

Experience

Minimum of nine (9) years experience in the field of computer science or information technology with:

  • Strong knowledge of the computer industry with the ability to forecast trends in the industry.
  • Experience in the provision of academic and instructional leadership to faculty and staff.
  • Knowledge of financial management and scheduling systems ensuring financial viability for the department.
  • Demonstrated understanding and commitment to teaching excellence and quality education preferably within an applied post-secondary environment.
  • Knowledge of, and experience in teaching/instruction.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to respond quickly to rapidly changing market.
  • Excellent leadership, group facilitation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent management skills in budgeting, project management, marketing and developing partnership linkages.
  • Knowledge of the Community College educational structure and the relationship of the College to other elements in the community.
  • Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrates a sound understanding of exemplary adult education practices, including skills and knowledge articulated within the College's Professor of the 21st Century.
  • Experience in the curriculum development process.
  • Knowledge of applied research is an asset.
  • Experience with cooperative education an asset.

This position requires regular on-site work at Algonquin College’s Woodroffe (Ottawa) Campus.
