The Root Cellar Village Green Grocer at Oxford Corner in Victoria, BC is seeking a Grocery Supervisor to oversee the daily department operations, delegate tasks, train staff, and uphold our high standards for freshness and quality.

You will lead a team, manage inventory and displays, ensure accurate rotation, handle customer needs and returns with grace, and foster a welcoming, community‑minded shopping experience for locals.

Qualifications

• One year of retail supervisory experience in grocery, food specialty or produce is preferred.
• Strong focus on customer service and produce knowledge.
• Positive attitude and leadership to motivate a team.
• Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 lbs repeatedly.
• Full-time availability, 40 hours weekly, including evenings and at least one weekend day.

Responsibilities

• Assist in managing, motivating, training and developing staff according to company policies and procedures.
• Merchandise grocery items so they are organized and visually appealing to maximize sales and uphold store appearance.
• Control product rotation with floor stock and manage displays to minimize loss; execute in-store specials when needed.
• Manage inventory levels to limit product loss and ensure stock integrity.
• Provide exceptional customer service, including handling returns and complaints; maintain signage and store standards.

THE ROLE

We are currenting seeking a Grocery Supervisor to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will have previous grocery experience and will assist the Grocery Leadership Team in overseeing the daily department operations, including delegating tasks, training and developing employees, providing exemplary customer service, upholding store policies, and ensuring the proper rotation and display of product to meet our high standards for freshness and quality.

• Assist in managing, motivating, training and developing staff according to company policies and procedures.

• Merchandise grocery items so that it is organized and visually appealing to maximize sales and uphold overall store appearance.

• Control product rotation with grocery floor stock, manage floor displays to ensure limited product loss, execute in store specials when necessary.

• Manage inventory levels to limit product loss.

• Provide exceptional customer service in all situations, including returns and complaints.

• Maintain store and display signage to set standards.

• One year of retail supervisory experience in a grocery, food specialty or produce environment is preferred, or similar experience.

• A passion for providing superior customer service and sharing produce knowledge.

• A positive attitude and the desire to lead and motivate a team.

• The physical ability to stand for long periods of time and lift up to 50lbs repeatedly.

• The ability to multi-task and maintain organization in a fast-paced environment.

• The availability to work full-time, 40 hours weekly for a variety of shifts including evenings and at least one weekend day.
