Job summary

Conestoga College is seeking a Front-End Web Developer to transform instructional content into engaging, accessible digital learning environments. You will collaborate with instructional designers and curriculum developers to create learning objects, multimedia components, and web-based resources, and you’ll contribute to custom LMS solutions and Brightspace integrations.

Qualifications

• Three-year diploma or degree in Web Development, IT, CS, Math, Multimedia/Graphic Design, Online Learning, Education, Business, Arts or a related field is required.
• Minimum five years of experience in educational technology, online learning, learning and development, web development, or IT is required.
• Some administrative use of a content or learning management system and familiarity with APIs, developing rich user experiences on the web is required; experience in post-secondary education is preferred.
• Advanced knowledge and experience building custom tools using APIs is considered an asset.
• Experience incorporating technology and media to enhance web content and improve the user experience, including implementation within content or learning management systems.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, including experience working with subject matter experts

Responsibilities

• Collaborates with project teams to develop quality online courses
• Develops and maintains web-based learning objects to support the college’s online course offerings (e.g., games, interactive web components, etc.)
• Develops instructional content into Conestoga’s chosen LMS
• Develops accessible solutions that comply with AODA requirements
• Follows the Online Learning Centre’s (OLC) quality assurance practices to support the integrity of Conestoga’s online courses
• Supports faculty and the OLC with video production and captioning activities and audio recording, including liaising with work study students and an external service
• Troubleshoots issues with the use of the LMS related to custom interactives and multimedia
• Investigates and shares new ideas with respect to multimedia learning activities
• Supports the development, integration, and implementation of custom LMS tools and applications using Brightspace APIs
• Develops and maintains custom LMS tools, integrations, interfaces, widgets, and templates that enhance usability and the learner experience
• Provides technical onboarding to new OLC staff and student employees
• Produces training material for new developers, including written documentation and video guides
• Develops written documentation around development processes, developer standards, and custom interactive documentation
• Conducts eConestoga consultations with instructional designers and curriculum developers
• Assists with LMS integrations, including testing functionality and providing documented feedback
• Troubleshoots issues with the use of Brightspace and reports issues using the Brightspace support portal if necessary
• Directs and assists instructors with the implementation and effective application of multimedia, learning objects and other educational technologies to enhance courses
• Provides LMS and eLearning software technical support

Position Summary

The Front-End Web Developer supports the development of Conestoga’s online learning experiences by transforming instructional content into engaging, interactive, and accessible digital learning environments. Working collaboratively with Instructional Designers, Curriculum Developers, Quality Assurance Specialists, and other stakeholders, the incumbent develops learning objects, multimedia components, custom tools, and web-based resources that enhance student engagement and support effective online learning.

This role also contributes to the development and maintenance of custom Learning Management System (LMS) solutions, provides technical expertise and support, and helps ensure online courses meet quality and accessibility standards.

Successful candidates will be required to conduct work within Ontario and must be available to work on campus as required. It is anticipated that this position will meet the needs of the department through a hybrid work arrangement with one day on-site at Conestoga’s 3065 King St. E. location in Kitchener, and four days remote.
