Job summary

Air Canada is seeking a creative Front-End Web Developer to bring design concepts to life across web and mobile platforms. You will collaborate with designers, back-end developers, and cross-functional teams to build accessible, high-performance experiences that define customer interactions with our digital platforms.

You will translate designs into responsive interfaces, write scalable code with React/Angular, and contribute to a shared design system while optimizing performance and ensuring

Qualifications

  • University degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
  • 3+ years of front-end development experience for web and/or mobile.
  • Strong HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript (ES6+), and responsive design proficiency.
  • Experience with React and/or Angular for web development.
  • Experience with React Native or native mobile development is highly desirable.
  • Deep understanding of JavaScript OOP and functional programming.
  • Familiarity with consuming RESTful APIs and JSON data.
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards and inclusive design practices.
  • Experience with performance tuning and debugging tools for UI optimization.
  • Proficiency with Git and Agile methodologies.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or in a team.

Responsibilities

  • Write clean, scalable, modular code using modern JavaScript frameworks (React, React Native, Angular).
  • Build reusable UI components and contribute to a shared design system.
  • Optimize front-end performance with lazy loading, code splitting, caching, and minimizing render times.
  • Collaborate with back-end developers to integrate APIs and ensure smooth data flow.
  • Develop unit, integration, and end-to-end tests for reliability.
  • Implement accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1, Section 508).
  • Stay current with emerging front-end technologies and best practices.
  • Leverage AI-assisted development tools to streamline workflows.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies and drive continuous process improvements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align goals, timelines, and deliverables.

Responsibilities:

  • Build reusable UI components and contribute to a shared design system that ensures consistency across applications.
  • Optimize front‑end performance through techniques such as lazy loading, code splitting, caching, and minimizing render times.
  • Collaborate with back‑end developers to integrate APIs, optimize data flow, and ensure seamless communication between front‑end and back‑end systems.
  • Develop comprehensive unit, integration, and end‑to‑end tests to ensure code reliability and maintainability.
  • Implement accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1, Section 508) to ensure inclusive user experiences.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies, frameworks, and best practices in front‑end and mobile development.
  • Leverage AI‑assisted development tools to streamline workflows and encourage adoption across the team.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies (sprint planning, stand‑ups, retrospectives) and contribute to continuous improvement of team processes.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams (designers, product managers, QA, DevOps) to align goals, timelines, and deliverables.
  • Author design documents, and validation plans to support scalable development.
Required
  • University degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
  • 3 years+ of experience in front‑end development for web and/or mobile platforms.
  • Strong proficiency in HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript (ES6+), and responsive design principles.
  • Experience with React and/or Angular for web development.
  • Experience with React Native or native mobile development (iOS/Android) is highly desirable.
  • Deep understanding of object‑oriented and functional programming in JavaScript.
  • Familiarity with consuming RESTful APIs and handling JSON data.
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards and inclusive design practices.
  • Experience with performance tuning and debugging tools for UI optimization.
  • Proficiency with version control systems (e.g., Git) and Agile development methodologies.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently or in a team.
  • Demonstrate punctuality and dependability to support overall team success in a fast‑paced environment.
Assets
  • Experience with content management systems (e.g., Adobe Experience Manager).
  • Familiarity with mobile app architectures (e.g., Redux, MobX).
  • Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and DevOps collaboration.
  • Passion for innovation and continuous learning.
  • Experience in the airline or travel industry.
