Job summary

Air Canada is seeking a Project Manager - Technology to lead end-to-end IT initiatives from conception through implementation, ensuring alignment with scope, schedule and budget. The role requires strong governance, risk management and stakeholder engagement across cross-functional teams.

Based in Dorval, you will drive project roadmaps, manage budgets and ensure quality, while applying Agile and Scrum practices to deliver value to the business and customers in a fast-paced airline environment.

Qualifications

  • Technical certification or a relevant university degree.
  • At least five years of experience in complex project management.
  • PM certification from a recognized body required.
  • Experience with Agile and Scrum methodologies preferred.
  • Ability to communicate concisely with diverse stakeholders.

The Project Manager - Technology is responsible for leading and successfully completing IT projects from end to end across their lifecycle phases. The person occupying this position must possess deep knowledge and extensive experience in supervising the creation, planning, implementation, quality control, and analysis stages of complex technical projects. They must be able to easily identify and define risks and issues early in the project lifecycle, and then communicate them to the relevant teams or sponsors, where applicable. The successful candidate must also ensure that the expected project outcomes meet stakeholder requirements regarding schedule, scope, and budget, in accordance with Air Canada's project management methodologies and frameworks. This includes maintaining standards related to management methods to limit risks associated with ongoing business transformations.

Responsibilities
  • Manage multiple technological projects, from conception to final implementation, including the transition to stable teams.
  • Manage day-to-day operational aspects related to project management to ensure compliance with project scope and quality and financial control.
  • Engage appropriate stakeholders to determine and manage the required outcomes of corporate and IT projects.
  • Support the definition of business and technical requirements, so that all project documents, artifacts, and intended project results are approved and meet business and technical needs.
  • Draft and maintain a master project roadmap, including workflows, core activities, milestones, due dates, owners, and dependencies, and use project management tools and skills to establish project timelines, track assigned tasks, track scope changes, and monitor project progress and financials.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with key stakeholders, including the project sponsor, Interline Product Owner, Technical Product Owner, and dossier lead, to keep them informed in a timely manner of significant changes in a project's status.
  • Communicate regularly with the project team to describe the work breakdown structure, assign responsibilities and tasks, set deadlines, and coordinate all project-related activities, including changes.
  • Track and manage the project budget and expenses, maintain forecast accuracy, and ensure costs are contained, variances explained, and invoices paid.
  • Establish and update performance measures, indicators, benchmarks, and project guidelines, so that project resources are used properly and in accordance with quality assurance standards relating to Air Canada's project management organization methods.
  • Communicate regularly with other project or program managers involved in other initiatives, to foster an environment of mutual awareness where project timelines, interdependencies, common challenges, and best practices are harmonized.
  • Establish and keep up to date reports and presentations on all aspects of project development, its progress, and achievement objectives.
  • Effectively communicate project progress to various levels of the management team. Assess project risk events and elevate them to the relevant level, where applicable, to ensure appropriate resolution.
  • Contribute to the development of all project governance methods and related practices, including the use of risk, dependency, issue, change management, and decision logs, and ensure compliance with and sponsorship of these methods.
  • Advise and guide the project team, as needed, on project management best practices.
  • Play a leadership role by advising project team members in sharing project management best practices.
  • Conduct project retrospectives to learn from them and document them.
Qualifications
  • Technical certification or relevant university degree (or relevant experience).
  • At least five years of experience in complex project management.
  • Project management certificate issued by a recognized project management body, a requirement.
  • Experience in using Agile and Scrum methodologies, strongly preferred.
  • Proven ability to work in a cross-functional environment, communicate concisely and effectively, gain consensus, and manage complex projects in a similar environment.
  • Strong relationship management and leadership skills.
  • Ability to simultaneously manage strategic and tactical plans while operating within a constantly transforming business context.
  • Demonstrate punctuality and reliability to support the overall success of the team in a fast-paced environment.
