Basic Purpose Of Position

This position will coordinate and provide guidance of best practices for all Freight and Customs activities within the company.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing the necessary documentation for efficient, cost effective and lawful execution of import/export activities.
  • Ensuring that U.S. and Canadian customs laws and regulations are adhered to during import and export activities.
  • Liaising with internal groups and trade chain partners to clear shipments, close entries, resolve paperwork issues and eliminate customs holds.
  • Maintaining a thorough understanding of the portfolio contracts to ensure proper handling of shipments and accurate invoice approvals in compliance with internal processes and regulations.
  • Monitoring account activity and freight costs, addressing misuse, rectifying errors, and recognizing opportunities for leveragability.
  • Maintaining knowledge and understanding of preferential tariff treatments, special provisions and programs, and FTAs.
  • Communicating Freight Alert Bulletins to all Jazz stakeholders for both Import and Export shipments including service disruptions.
  • Ensuring and maintaining Jazz’s preparation to meet the requirements of Customs audits.
  • Maintaining a comprehensive Harmonized Tariff Code database.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
  • Performing duties in accordance with established policies and procedures while giving primary consideration to personal safety, and the safety of co-workers and customers.

Qualifications

  • Business Degree /Diploma or relevant experience preferred.
  • Certified Customs Specialist (CCS), Professional Logistician Designations (PLOG), Certified International Trade Professional (CITP), Professional Freight Forwarder (PFF), or other related professional designations considered an asset.
  • Aviation experience considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of the Canadian and/or U.S. Customs Tariff(s) and commodity classification considered an asset.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and able to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Microsoft Office products (Word and Excel) proficiency required.
  • Experience working in databases and Ariba experience considered an asset.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
