Job summary

Loblaw Companies Limited is launching the Franchise Academy to develop seasoned retail leaders into Franchise Owners for Your Independent Grocer and Loblaws City Market banners across Western Canada.

Gain hands-on leadership experience, manage growth projects, and deepen your understanding of franchise operations while advancing your career with Loblaw’s support, mentorship, and extensive training.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of leadership experience in grocery and/or retail.
• Store Manager or Assistant Store Manager experience strongly preferred.
• Willingness to relocate within Western Canada or to another region in Canada after Academy.
• Must hold a valid driver’s license and have access to reliable transportation.
• Travel up to 70% of the time within Western Canada.

Responsibilities

• Lead and support franchise development projects, including new store openings and renovations.
• Develop a deep understanding of the franchise ownership model and financial performance (P&L, budgeting).
• Mentor and coach aspiring Franchise Owners and retail leaders.
• Build a national network to support franchise success and ongoing leadership.
• Engage with communities and uphold Loblaw’s sustainability and diversity commitments.

The Franchise Academy is an intensive, hands‑on development experience designed to prepare experienced retail leaders to become successful Franchise Owners within Your Independent Grocer and Loblaws City Market, two of Loblaw Companies Limited's leading grocery banners.

Through the Academy, you'll gain broad, practical experience, deepen your operational knowledge, and strengthen the leadership capabilities needed to lead your own store. What You'll Gain

Who We're Looking For

• Minimum of 5 years of leadership experience in the grocery and/or retail sector; Store Manager or Assistant Store Manager experience is strongly preferred
• Proven ability to inspire, coach, develop, and lead high‑performing teams
• Strong understanding of store operations, merchandising, and financial performance, including P&L, budgeting, shrink, and labour management
• Strong relationship‑building and communication skills, with the ability to connect with and engage teams
• Strong business acumen and entrepreneurial drive
• Commitment to community engagement and values‑driven leadership
• Experience leading teams in unionized and non‑unionized environments is preferred

Program Requirements

• Frequent Travel: Travel throughout the Western Canada region is a significant part of the Academy experience and may be required up to 70% of the time.
• Reliable Transportation: You must hold a valid driver's license and have access to a reliable vehicle for regular travel. Mileage will be reimbursed in accordance with company policy.
• Relocation: Franchise opportunities are based on business needs and store availability. Candidates should be prepared to relocate within Western Canada, or in some cases to another region within Canada, upon successful completion of the Academy to pursue a franchise opportunity.

Program Length: 13 months

Please note:

Becoming a Franchise Owner following successful completion of the Franchise Academy requires a personal investment of $50,000 in readily available funds.
