Job summary

Loblaw Companies Limited invites experienced retail leaders to join the Franchise Academy, a hands‑on program preparing promising leaders to own Your Independent Grocer and Loblaw City Market stores across Canada.

You will gain practical store-operations experience, deepen financial and leadership skills, and receive mentorship while traveling Atlantic Canada to explore franchise opportunities. This 13‑month program requires a personal investment and offers comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of leadership experience in the grocery and/or retail sector.
• Store Manager or Assistant Store Manager experience is strongly preferred.
• Strong business acumen and understanding of P&L, budgeting, shrink and labour management.
• Experience leading teams in unionized and non-unionized environments is preferred.

The Franchise Academy is an intensive, hands‑on development experience designed to prepare experienced retail leaders to become successful Franchise Owners within Your Independent Grocer and Loblaws City Market, two of Loblaw Companies Limited's leading grocery banners.

Through the Academy, you'll gain broad, practical experience, deepen your operational knowledge, and strengthen the leadership capabilities needed to lead your own store. What You’ll Gain:

• Build experience across high-performing grocery franchise locations
• Lead and support special projects, including new store openings, renovations, and banner-wide initiatives

Who We’re Looking For:

• Minimum of 5 years of leadership experience in the grocery and/or retail sector; Store Manager or Assistant Store Manager experience is strongly preferred
• Proven ability to inspire, coach, develop, and lead high-performing teams
• Strong understanding of store operations, merchandising, and financial performance, including P&L, budgeting, shrink, and labour management
• Strong relationship-building and communication skills, with the ability to connect with and engage teams
• Strong business acumen and entrepreneurial drive
• Commitment to community engagement and values-driven leadership
• Experience leading teams in unionized and non-unionized environments is preferred

Program Requirements:

• Frequent Travel: Travel throughout the Atlantic Canada region is a significant part of the Academy experience and may be required up to 70% of the time.
• Reliable Transportation: You must hold a valid driver’s licence and have access to a reliable vehicle for regular travel. Mileage will be reimbursed in accordance with company policy.
• Relocation: Franchise opportunities are based on business needs and store availability. Candidates should be prepared to relocate within Atlantic Canada, or in some cases to another region within Canada, upon successful completion of the Academy to pursue a franchise opportunity.

Program Length: 13 months

Please note: Becoming a Franchise Owner following successful completion of the Franchise Academy requires a personal investment of $50,000 in readily available funds.
