Job summary

Howmet Aerospace in Georgetown, ON is seeking an entry-level foundry technician to perform tasks involved with melting and casting metal. The role requires operating furnaces, moving shells, and pouring molten metal while adhering to safety and quality procedures.

Candidates should have a high school diploma, be able to read and follow written instructions, and be willing to cross-train across the facility. This is an on-site, full-time role with an hourly starting rate of $22.00.

Qualifications

  • Must read, write, and comprehend verbal and activity instructions.
  • Must acquire knowledge for acceptable/non acceptable requirements for castings by being able to interpret and understand visual specifications.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one or two-step instructions.
  • Follows all Environmental, Health and Safety policies and procedures.
  • Follows all Quality policies and procedures as stated in the Quality Management System.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent

Responsibilities

  • Perform tasks involved with melting and casting metal as requested and ensure adherence to quality procedures.
  • Load and unload melting stock; operate furnaces, melt pots and cabinets with temperature controls.
  • Move shells and castings; operate forklift if certified and transport materials as required.
  • Maintain general housekeeping in the foundry area and follow safety protocols.
  • Cross-train in multiple areas to support facility operations.

Responsibilities

Starting Hourly Rate: $22.00/ hour

This position is to fill a current vacancy.

This position is primarily responsible for performing tasks involved with casting and melting metal. Undertakes all activities involving melting and casting metal as requested and ensures respect to company quality procedures.

Performs tasks involving melting metal: removes castings from pressure pots, moves materials and cleans equipment and work area .

Loads and removes shells from ovens .

Helps transport and pour ladles of molten metal.Pushes and turns ladles to pour metal .

Deslags molten metal being poured.Skims slag from degas and surface of molten metal using scoop .

Removes cast shells from pressure pots, loads conveyor and moves cast shells out of foundry for cooling .

Transfers shells from dewax to casting area .

Loads, moves and unloads melting stock as necessary .

Is responsible for general housekeeping of the area .

Follows necessary safety precautions in operating equipment to protect eyes, hands and body .

Moves casting by hand or by using hand card with hoists.Scrapes and cleans crucibles at end of workweek .

Operates furnace doors and temperature controller on ovens .

Operates and controls temperature on melt pots .

Operates forklift as needed . If certified.

Makes chemistry addition to melts when required by spectrograph operator.

Cross trained in a variety of areas throughout the facility.
