Job summary

Norland in Duncan, BC seeks a Junior/Intermediate Estimator (Foundations & Shoring) to lead competitive cost estimates for deep foundations, piling, marine, and heavy civil projects. You will manage bid processes, analyze drawings and contracts, and collaborate with pre-construction and field teams.

You’ll contribute to innovative pricing strategies, support RFQs/RFPs, and help drive successful project awards while advancing your geotechnical estimating career within a premier contractor.

Qualifications

• Diploma or Degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Geotechnical/Geological Engineering, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent.
• Preferably 3–5 years of estimating, civil contracting, or geotechnical consulting experience.
• Registration or eligibility for C.Tech or AScT (ASTTBC) or EIT (EGBC) is highly regarded.
• Experience with pile driving, foundation drilling, CIP piles, cofferdams, shoring walls, tie backs, slope stabilization, or marine construction is desirable.
• Strong understanding of estimating principles, project execution planning, and risk management.
• Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, contracts, and tender documents.
• Proven ability to manage multiple pursuits in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
• Proficiency with HeavyBid, B2W, MS Project, or similar estimating software is an asset.
• Valid BC Driver's License

Responsibilities

• Lead the preparation of competitive estimates and proposals for deep foundations, piling, marine, and heavy civil projects.
• Manage the full tendering process independently from bid invitation to final submission.
• Analyze drawings, specs, schedules, and contracts to develop accurate cost estimates and execution strategies.
• Identify risks and opportunities related to safety, environment, constructability, schedule, procurement, and performance.
• Develop pricing and bid strategies to improve project win rates.
• Prepare clear proposals communicating value and technical solutions to clients.
• Collaborate with operations, project management, and field teams to validate assumptions and execution plans.
• Support bid reviews and provide recommendations for sound business decisions.
• Assist with RFQs/RFPs and joint venture opportunities.
• Build relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, and partners.
• Partner with leadership to identify new opportunities and support growth.
• Provide estimating support during project execution including change management and cost analysis.
• Contribute to process improvements in estimating systems and practices.
