Job summary

Fairbrothers Formwork Ltd. in Richmond, BC is seeking a meticulous Detailer to translate design specs into buildable formwork and shoring plans. The role includes precise formwork detailing and accurate takeoffs to support estimation.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of concrete formwork detailing experience.
  • Experience in rebar detailing is a strong asset.
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to read, interpret and adjust complex drawings for projects.
  • CAD expertise required: AutoCAD and Bluebeam.

Responsibilities

  • Review and adapt architectural/structural drawings to develop detailed formwork and shoring plans.
  • Produce clear shop drawings, layout and erection drawings for formwork.
  • Perform detailed formwork takeoffs to support estimation and construction.
  • Coordinate with estimating, project management and procurement teams.
  • Regularly travel between Richmond office and local job sites to clarify details.
  • Collaborate with Project Manager and Site Manager on design buildability.

Job description

Fairbrothers Formwork Ltd. is seeking a meticulous and experienced Detailer to join our technical team in Richmond, BC. This is a vital, hands‑on role focused on translating design specifications into detailed, buildable formwork and shoring plans for our field crews. In addition to detailing, this position will also support the estimation process by performing accurate formwork takeoffs. Key Responsibilities

As a Formwork Detailer, your precision ensures the success and efficiency of our projects. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Design Review and Adaptation: Critically review and adapt architectural and structural engineering drawings to develop detailed, comprehensive formwork and shoring plans. You will proactively identify and resolve potential conflicts or discrepancies before construction begins.
  • Formwork Detailing & Drawings: Produce clear, accurate, and detailed shop drawings, layout plans, and erection drawings necessary for the successful, safe, and efficient construction of concrete formwork.
  • Technical Coordination & Takeoffs: Perform detailed and accurate formwork takeoffs to support both the estimation and construction phases. Collaborate with the estimating, project management, and procurement teams to ensure that material quantities, drawings, and technical details align with project budgets, schedules, and constructability requirements.
  • Site & Office Collaboration: Regularly commute between our Richmond office and local job sites to clarify details, answer field crew questions, and ensure the constructability of your designs. Work closely with the Project Manager and Site Manager.
  • Software Proficiency: Utilize AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, and/or other detailing software to create and modify drawings.
Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you should possess:

  • Relevant Experience: A minimum of 3 years of experience specifically in concrete formwork detailing and drafting. Experience in rebar detailing is a strong asset.
  • Driving Requirement: Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License and reliable transportation for frequent travel to local job sites across the Lower Mainland.
  • Drawing Expertise: Proven ability to read, interpret, and accurately adjust complex architectural and structural drawings for high-rise residential and commercial projects.
  • Technical Skills: Expert proficiency in CAD software, such as AutoCAD and Bluebeam, is required.
  • Construction Knowledge: Strong understanding of concrete construction methods, safety standards, and various formwork systems (e.g., table forms, wall forms, columns, flying forms).
  • Takeoff Proficiency: Demonstrated experience and accuracy in performing detailed material takeoffs for formwork systems.
  • Communication & Problem-Solving: Excellent analytical skills to rapidly solve detailing problems and clearly communicate solutions to the project team both in the office and on site.
  • Education: A technical diploma or degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Technology, or a related field is highly valued.
