The Food Service Worker performs duties including food preparation, cooking, assembly, and checking order accuracy for patients. Following established recipes and standards, the role ensures quality, serving temperatures, and portion control, escalating issues to Cook, Supervisor, or Manager as needed.
What You’ll Do
- Prepare patient meal items such as tea, coffee, toast, salads, sandwiches, milkshakes, infant formulas, and tube feedings by weighing, measuring, and combining ingredients.
- Assemble patient meal trays according to menu and portion food for patients and retail areas as required.
- Load, deliver, collect, and unload meal service wagons.
- Clean dishes and utensils; store them appropriately.
- Prepare items like vegetables and fruits through washing, slicing, dicing, and grating.
- Handle food storage, including loading, rotating stock, labeling, and freezing.
- Perform cleaning duties such as sweeping, mopping, and sanitizing work areas and equipment.
- Transport pans, kettles, and trays safely within the work environment.
- Store food following safety protocols, including wrapping, dating, and rotation.
- Notify leadership about inventory levels.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Grade 10 with one year of recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Certificate in Food Safe Level 1.
- Knowledge of the impacts of settler colonialism on Indigenous Peoples, including Indigenous-specific mandates and a commitment to eradicate racism and embed Cultural Safety and Humility.
- Understanding of systemic racism and Indigenous-specific anti-racism initiatives, including relevant legislation and policies.
