Job summary

Alberta Health Services in Fairview is seeking a Food Service I to perform routine food preparation, portioning and service for Long Term Care residents. The role involves packing, serving meals, cleaning, and basic cash handling with a flexible shift pattern.

Requirements include Grade 10, ability to lift up to 46 lbs, and a Food Safe Handling certificate within three months. This is a casual/relief position at the Fairview Health Complex with a Monday–Friday daytime shift pattern.

• Physically capable to lift food, supplies and equipment up to 46lbs and push/pull meal carts up to 250lbs.
• Must be able to walk and stand for the duration of the shift.

Job description

Under the general supervision of the Food Services Supervisor, this position performs routine food service duties such as preparation, portioning, assembly, delivery, distribution, disassembly, cleaning, operating industrial food service equipment, inventory stocking, cash transactions and customer service in all functional areas of the department. Food Service delivery is provided to Long Term Care residents. This position must be independent and able to make some decisions as a supervisor is not on duty at all times. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.

Your typical duties may include packaging and portioning food items, preparing food according to set guidelines and menus, serving meals to patients and customers and cleaning and sanitizing equipment, dishes, tables and serving areas.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Require basic computer skills - Food Safe Handling Certificate is required within three months. To work as part of a team, to be organized, perform duties independently and have the ability to work and learn quickly. Demonstrate interpersonal skills and customer service skills. Ability to read, write, speak and receive instruction in English. Must be physically fit and be able to perform heavy lifting up to 20 kg.
