Job summary

Alberta Health Services (AHS) in Oyen – Big Country Hospital is seeking a part-time Food Service I to join the Nutrition Food Service team. You will prepare, portion and serve meals to patients and customers, assemble trays, and maintain hygiene and safety standards in accordance with AHS guidelines.

With a 0.52 FTE position, hours include days, evenings and weekends on a rotation. Requires English proficiency, ability to lift 46 lbs, and prior food service or warehouse experience is a plus.

• Walk and stand on feet for duration of shift.

This position will be accountable for performing a variety of tasks to ensure a quality patient, resident and customer experience. Under the general supervision of a Food Services Supervisor, they will use strong customer service, teamwork and organizational skills to: Prepare, handle, portion and package food and beverages. Assemble trays in the kitchen. Provide patient meal delivery and pick up. Safely operate and clean industrial food service equipment. Adhere to safety, sanitation, and food preparation standards in accordance with AHS policies and guidelines. Complete other food service duties as assigned. The successful candidate will be able to: Work in a fast-paced environment with speed and accuracy. Work under pressure in high stress situations. Communicate effectively in English with patients, co-workers, and other hospital departments. Work as an effective, professional team member. Demonstrate a patient first approach as outlined in the AHS Foundational Strategies. Perform basic math functions to measure out food portions.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of Grade 10 or equivalent.Physically capable to lift food, supplies and equipment up to 46lbs and must be able to push/pull meal carts up to 250lbs.This position requires you to walk and stand on your feet for the duration of your shift.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Read/Write/Speak/Understand English.

Preferred Qualifications:

Customer service experience. Food service experience. Experience in a hospital or long-term care environment. Experience with inventory management; receiving deliveries, managing expiry dates and minimizing waste while utilizing “First in-First Out” procedures. Experience with Industrial Food Service Equipment. Food Safe Certificate or equivalent. WHMIS training.
