Role Description

The Fleet Telematics Engineer is a full-time, on-site role based in Vancouver, BC, focused on integrating, managing, and optimizing telematics solutions for EV fleets using Volterra’s battery health platforms. Day-to-day responsibilities include configuring and maintaining telematics hardware and software, ensuring accurate data collection from vehicles and battery systems, and troubleshooting connectivity or data quality issues. The engineer collaborates with product, data, and operations teams to refine data pipelines, enhance fleet monitoring dashboards, and support new feature rollouts related to vehicle and battery performance. This role also involves working with customers and internal stakeholders to assess telematics requirements, conduct system tests, and implement best practices for fleet deployment. The Fleet Telematics Engineer contributes to continuous improvement efforts, documentation, and training to ensure reliable and scalable fleet telematics solutions.

Qualifications
  • Telematics and fleet systems: experience with vehicle telematics platforms, CAN bus or similar vehicle communication protocols, GPS and sensor integrations, and EV fleet monitoring tools.
  • Data and software skills: proficiency with data collection and processing, SQL or similar query languages, scripting (e.g., Python), and working with APIs or cloud-based platforms.
  • Systems and hardware: familiarity with on-board hardware installation, networking concepts, IoT devices, and diagnostic tools for connectivity and performance issues.
  • Analysis and problem-solving: strong analytical skills to interpret telemetry data, identify patterns or anomalies, and propose practical solutions to improve fleet efficiency.
  • Collaboration and communication: ability to work cross-functionally with engineering, product, and customer-facing teams, and communicate technical concepts clearly in written and verbal form.
  • Education and experience: post-secondary degree or diploma in Electrical/Computer Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Science, or related field, and relevant experience with EVs, fleet operations, or telematics systems.
