Job description

The Landmark Group is looking for an experienced Fleet Mechanic to join our team and take ownership of maintaining our fleet of vehicles and equipment.

This is a full-time, year-round position averaging approximately 40 hours per week. The majority of your time will be spent working in our heated, fully equipped shop in Thornbury, with very few roadside or field service calls.

Landmark operates a licensed repair shop and can inspect and safety our own vehicles.

We use AI-assisted tools to help identify and match applicants to our open roles. This may include reviewing resumes and suggesting potential matches. All final hiring decisions are made by humans.

Our Fleet

There's plenty of variety. Our fleet includes:

  • Freightliner trucks
  • Pickup trucks
  • Floats and equipment trailers
  • Enclosed trailers
  • Zero-turn mowers
  • Skid steers
  • Excavators
  • Boom lifts
  • Small engines and landscape equipment
  • Passenger/personal vehicles
  • Other landscape and construction equipment

Our fleet is well maintained, well documented and in great overall condition. We have established maintenance records and systems in place and take preventative maintenance seriously.

You're not walking into a neglected fleet or a backlog of overdue repairs.

The Shop

You'll spend the majority of your time working from our heated, fully equipped shop in Thornbury.

The shop is already set up with:

  • Vehicle hoists
  • Movable lifts
  • Tool and parts storage
  • Dedicated mechanic's office
  • Fleet/service truck
  • Established maintenance records and documentation

You'll have the equipment, space and information you need to do the job properly.

What You'll Do

Your primary responsibility is keeping our fleet safe, reliable and ready to work.

That includes:

  • Diagnosing, servicing and repairing vehicles and equipment
  • Performing preventative maintenance and scheduled servicing
  • Completing vehicle inspections and safeties where qualified
  • Maintaining and repairing trucks and trailers
  • Troubleshooting and repairing construction and landscape equipment
  • Maintaining mowers, small engines and other equipment
  • Keeping maintenance and service records current
  • Planning upcoming maintenance to minimize downtime
  • Coordinating dealer or specialized repairs when required
  • Keeping the shop, parts and maintenance program organized

This is primarily a mechanic position, but you'll also be part of the larger Landmark operation. When the fleet is caught up, we're looking for someone who's willing to jump in and help keep things moving.

That might include:

  • Helping load or unload trucks and equipment
  • Fueling vehicles and equipment
  • Picking up or delivering parts
  • Receiving occasional courier and supplier deliveries
  • Moving trucks, trailers and equipment around the property
  • Helping keep the shop and yard organized
  • Pitching in with other shop and yard tasks when needed

We're looking for someone who sees what needs to be done and takes initiative.

Requirements
  • Valid Ontario 310T Truck and Coach Technician license
  • Valid driver's license
  • 3+ years of hands-on mechanic experience with trucks, heavy equipment, construction equipment, agricultural equipment, landscape equipment, or similar machinery
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills across electrical, computer, engine, diesel, hydraulic, brake, suspension, steering, and transmission or drivetrain systems
  • Experience maintaining and repairing Freightliner or similar heavy trucks, pickup trucks, diesel vehicles, trailers, floats, enclosed trailers, fleet vehicles, or other commercial vehicles
  • Experience maintaining a mixed company fleet and working across both trucks and heavy equipment
  • Experience with preventative maintenance programs, scheduled servicing, inspection schedules, maintenance records, repair documentation, tracking upcoming repairs, parts planning, coordinating outside or dealer repairs, and reducing equipment downtime
  • Experience taking ownership of keeping a fleet operational through maintenance planning and repair coordination
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize your workload, and keep the shop, parts, and maintenance program organized
  • A preventative mindset and pride in maintaining equipment properly
  • A willingness to help out and be part of the larger team
  • Hands‑on mechanical experience with skid steers, excavators, boom lifts, hydraulic systems, or diesel‑powered equipment
  • Experience repairing zero‑turn mowers, lawn or landscape equipment, small engines, generators, pumps, or other outdoor power equipment is an asset
  • Experience with MIG, TIG, or stick welding, trailer repair, fabrication, cutting or grinding, bracket or frame repair, or general shop fabrication is an asset
  • Experience performing Ontario safety inspections, commercial vehicle inspections, annual or periodic inspections, pre‑trip or post‑trip inspections, or vehicle safety certifications is an asset
  • Knowledge of Ontario vehicle safety requirements is an asset
  • Understanding of the maintenance needs of landscaping and construction fleets is an asset
  • Broad mechanical experience across multiple equipment categories such as trucks, trailers, heavy equipment, small engines, and landscape equipment is an asset
  • Experience beyond passenger vehicles, with stronger alignment to fleet or heavy‑equipment work, is preferred
  • Holding both valid Ontario 310S Automotive Service Technician and 310T Truck and Coach Technician licenses is an asset
