Job summary

Heidelberg Materials is seeking a Fleet Maintenance Supervisor to lead a unionized maintenance team and oversee preventive and corrective maintenance for our Ready-Mix fleet and related equipment in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. You will coordinate with Operations, Safety, drivers, and vendors to ensure safe, reliable operations and continuous improvement.

The role requires strong leadership, a solid background in fleet maintenance, and a proven track record in safety compliance and cost

Qualifications

Accommodations may be available upon request for candidates taking part in all aspects of the selection process.**Position Summary**The Fleet Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily fleet maintenance activities to ensure company vehicles and equipment are safe, reliable, compliant, and available to support business operations. This role provides frontline leadership to a unionized maintenance team, coordinates external service providers, and oversees preventive and corrective maintenance activities.The Fleet Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for executing fleet maintenance programs, controlling maintenance-related costs, monitoring fleet condition and reliability, and supporting effective fleet utilization. The role works closely with Operations, Safety, drivers, vendors, and other stakeholders to resolve maintenance issues and drive continuous improvement in safety, equipment performance, and operational efficiency.**Key Responsibilities*** Ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the Ready-Mix truck fleet and related equipment.* Direct and supervise the daily activities of unionized mechanics, including assigning work, setting priorities, and monitoring performance.* Manage the preventive maintenance program and ensure required inspections, maintenance, and repairs are completed on schedule.* Coordinate repairs completed by external vendors, review repair recommendations, and approve the appropriate course of action.* Monitor fleet condition, equipment reliability, and maintenance trends, and participate in fleet utilization and equipment-related decisions.* Review driver inspection reports and ensure identified maintenance concerns are assessed and addressed promptly.* Respond to and provide direction during emergency maintenance situations to minimize operational disruptions.* Oversee the purchasing of parts, maintenance supplies, and external repair services.* Manage purchasing controls and monitor repair and maintenance costs in accordance with established budgets and company guidelines.* Utilize TMW and other maintenance management systems to review maintenance activities, access reporting, and monitor fleet performance.* Support the recruitment, onboarding, training, development, performance management, discipline, and succession planning of maintenance employees.* Provide regular coaching and feedback to direct reports and promote a positive, collaborative, and accountable work environment.* Ensure compliance with company safety and environmental standards, regulatory requirements, policies, procedures, and applicable Group guidelines.* Ensure required employee training is completed and established safety and maintenance procedures are consistently followed.* Lead monthly safety meetings and participate in toolbox talks and other safety discussions.* Coordinate with the Safety Department regarding work-related injuries and associated requirements.* Identify and support continuous improvement opportunities related to fleet reliability, safety, maintenance processes, equipment performance, and utilization.**Qualifications*** Minimum 5 years of supervisory or leadership experience, ideally within fleet maintenance, transportation, or an industrial environment.* Minimum 3 years of experience in an industrial or operational environment.* Demonstrated ability to lead employees, establish priorities, and manage day-to-day maintenance activities.* Strong understanding of workplace safety, regulatory compliance, and preventive maintenance practices.* Strong organizational, planning, and problem-solving skills.* Ability to balance safety, equipment availability, operational requirements, and maintenance costs.* Effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively with mechanics, drivers, operations, vendors, and management.* Comfortable using digital systems and technology to monitor maintenance activities, reporting, and performance.**Preferred Qualifications*** Heavy Duty Mechanic experience, certification, or strong mechanical background.* Previous experience supervising a unionized workforce.* Experience within the ready-mix concrete, aggregates, construction materials, or related heavy industrial industry.* Previous experience working with a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).* Experience using TMW or a similar fleet management system.* Experience coordinating external repair vendors and managing maintenance-related purchasing and costs.* Demonstrated experience supporting continuous improvement initiatives related to fleet reliability, maintenance, or equipment utilization.**Work Environment*** Primarily based in an operational fleet maintenance environment with regular interaction in maintenance shops, yards, and office settings.* Regular exposure to moving vehicles, heavy equipment, machinery, noise, dust, and varying weather conditions.* Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required in designated operational areas.* Requires regular interaction with mechanics, drivers, vendors, operations teams, and management.* Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where operational and maintenance priorities can change quickly.* May require flexibility in working hours and availability outside of regular business hours to respond to urgent or emergency fleet maintenance needs.* Regular presence in operational areas is required to provide visible
