Position Overview
Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Fleet Maintenance Manager oversees the maintenance and repair programs for our company's vehicle fleet. This role ensures all vehicles are in top condition, compliant with safety regulations, and maintained cost-effectively. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, extensive fleet maintenance knowledge, and a dedication to operational efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Create SOPs related to vehicle operation and assist in developing training programs to promote best practices. Foster a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement. Conduct performance evaluations and coaching for team development.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive fleet maintenance program to maximize vehicle uptime and reliability. Schedule and oversee preventive maintenance, inspections, and repairs. Monitor vehicle performance, fuel consumption, and repair trends to optimize operations. Ensure compliance with policies, manufacturer recommendations, and regulations. Coordinate with external vendors and mechanics for outsourced maintenance.
- Ensure all fleet operations adhere to transportation regulations. Maintain accurate records of maintenance, inspections, and compliance. Implement safety training programs to reduce accidents and liabilities. Conduct audits and inspections to enforce policies and best practices.
- Utilize fleet management software to track performance, maintenance schedules, and repair history. Generate reports on fleet utilization and costs. Recommend technological solutions to improve operations and reduce downtime.
- Manage the fleet maintenance budget, ensuring cost-effective repairs and replacements. Track expenses related to fuel, repairs, parts, and labor. Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising service quality. Evaluate and negotiate vendor contracts.
- Establish and maintain relationships with service providers. Collaborate with Strategic Sourcing to negotiate vendor contracts, manage SLAs, and monitor performance. Onboard new partners to expand service capabilities.
Experience & Qualifications
- 10+ years managing fleets in transportation and logistics industries.
- Strong knowledge of vehicle mechanics, including diesel and gas engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems. Experience with electric vehicles and sustainability initiatives is a plus. Familiarity with GPS tracking systems.
- 5+ years in a similar management role.
Education & Certifications
- Diploma, Degree, or relevant experience. Certifications such as ASE, DOT Compliance, or others are advantageous.
