Job summary

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent is hiring a permanent full-time Auto Service Technician in the Public Works division to repair and maintain municipally owned vehicles and equipment.

The successful candidate will diagnose, repair, service and inspect faults in a fast-paced environment, perform MTO inspections, coach apprentices, and maintain records. A DZ license is required; 310T certification and 310S as an asset are desirable.

Qualifications

• Possession of 310T (Truck and Coach) license preferred.
• 310S license an asset.
• 5 years as a 310T technician preferred.
• Experience with diagnostic equipment: Navistar, Diamond Logic, Prolink, Service Maxx, Michell Heavy & Light Duty, Bendix, WABCO.
• Experience working with schematic diagrams.
• Excellent welding skills: MIG, STICK and Oxy-Acetylene.
• Strong computer skills (MS Office).

Responsibilities

• Repair and maintain municipally owned vehicles and equipment.
• Diagnose, repair, service and inspect faults across fleet.
• Perform MTO inspections and issue Safety Certificates.
• Prepare/maintain written work records (time sheets, parts, inspections).
• Coach and instruct apprentices and/or students.
• Maintain a tidy and clean workspace.
• Operate all types of vehicles and equipment in shop/yard.
• Estimate parts and labour costs for repairs.
• Research equipment, vehicles, parts, warranties, etc.
• Ensure safety and compliance in all tasks.
