Job summary

City of Cambridge is seeking a Fleet Technician to join the Infrastructure Services team. If you are a licensed 310T or 310S Technician, apply to contribute your skills in a collaborative municipal environment.

You will report to the Fleet Supervisor and perform preventive maintenance and repairs across a diverse municipal fleet. The role requires completing inspections, working in a team, and supporting after-hours call-outs on a rotating basis.

Qualifications

  • Must hold valid Automotive Service Technician (310S) or Truck and Coach Technician (310T) Certificate of Qualification.
  • Two to three years’ apprenticeship experience and completed in-school training.
  • Valid Ontario Class D driver’s license with Z endorsement; good driving record.
  • High school grade 12 diploma or equivalent.
  • Meets requirements of Physical Demands Analysis for position.

Responsibilities

  • Inspects, diagnoses, repairs and performs all required preventive maintenance on municipal fleet vehicles and equipment.
  • Collaborates with other technicians and assists peers to complete maintenance.
  • Performs PMCVI inspections to meet CVOR requirements.
  • Designs, fabricates and fits parts and assemblies as needed.
  • Conducts road and operational tests to ensure safe operation and repairs are complete.

Education

Certificate of Qualification: 310S or 310T
Two to three years’ apprenticeship experience
Ontario Class D driver’s license with Z endorsement

Job Profile

We are seeking a Fleet Technician to join our Infrastructure Services team. If you are a licensed 310T or 310S Technician looking to apply your skills in a collaborative environment, we encourage you to apply. Reporting to the Fleet Supervisor, this position is responsible for the following duties:

What you will be doing
  • Inspects, diagnoses, repairs and performs all required preventative maintenance of all components and on all types of municipal fleet vehicles and equipment.
  • Works closely with other technicians, is an enthusiastic team player and always willing to assist peers in facilitating the completion of maintenance to vehicles and equipment.
  • Carries out preventive maintenance inspections, procedures and servicing, and performs periodic mandatory commercial vehicle inspections (PMCVI’s) to meet all regulatory Ministry of Transportation Commercial Vehicle Operator’s Registration (CVOR) requirements.
  • Designs, fabricates and fits parts, components and assemblies.
  • Safely conducts road and operational tests of equipment for safe operation and to ensure repairs are completed.
  • Maintains a clean work area clear of clutter and trip hazards and ensures shop tools and equipment are ready to use.
  • Assists in the safe movement of vehicles and equipment using verbal and hand signals.
  • Able to periodically work outdoors in inclement weather conditions.
  • Responds to after hour call-outs on a rotational basis.
  • Must be able to work rotating shifts and occasionally extended hours as required.
Education

High school Grade 12 diploma or equivalent

  • Must have Valid Automotive Service Technician (310S)or Truck and Coach Technician (310T) Certificate of Qualification from the Skilled Trades Ontario (formally Ontario College of Trades).
  • Two to three years’ apprenticeship experience, including completed terms of applicable in-school training
  • A valid Ontario Class D driver’s license with Z endorsement in good standing, with a driver’s abstract acceptable to the City (4 or less demerit point may be considered acceptable, considering the nature of infractions).
  • Meets requirements of Physical Demands Analysis for position.

Proof of your current and valid certificate(s) and/or educational qualifications.

Valid DZ driver’s license

Worker Health and Safety Awareness Training certificate from the Ministry of Labour. (may be obtained post offer)

Your compensation

This unionized position (Outside Workers) current hourly rate for 2026:
Fleet Technician 2 - $39.80 to $42.26 per hour (310T or 310S required). Candidates holding both a 310T and 310Swill be eligible for an additional $2.50 premium hourly rate.
Comprehensive benefits package included.
Enrolment in Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System (OMERS).

Hours of work

Regular hours of work for this position, as per the collective agreement, are currently Monday to Friday, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. or 2:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. (40 hours per week) with the requirement to be available for overtime, on call duty and possible shift work, as needed.
