Empire Life is seeking an Investment Analyst to join our Fixed Income and Alternative Assets group in Toronto. You will support the Fixed Income Team in active portfolio management across institutional and retail mandates, handling a mix of public bonds, private debt, mortgages, and external funds.

The role emphasizes data gathering, modelling, and financial analysis to inform investment decisions. You will work with the team to prepare recommendations, monitor risk and covenant compliance, and

Qualifications

• 1–3 years of fixed income analysis experience (public bonds, private debt, mortgages)
• Strong knowledge of credit principles and capital markets
• Ability to present complex concepts clearly
• CFA or working toward designation
• High proficiency in Excel (including VBA), Word and PowerPoint; Python desirable

Responsibilities

• Collect and analyze industry, company and economic information from multiple sources
• Assist in asset selection through analysis of investment opportunities
• Assist in preparing investment recommendations and internal memos
• Coordinate financial settlements with the Investment Administration team
• Assist in managing fixed income assets including bonds, mortgages, and alternative funds
• Monitor holdings for covenants and credit ratings through periodic reviews
• Construct and maintain spreadsheets for valuation and monitoring
• Prepare reports on portfolio investment performance
• Participate in Investment team strategic meetings
• Handle ad hoc duties as needed
