Job summary

Walters Group, a family-owned steel construction company, seeks a Fitter for Princeton Fabrication Facility to fabricate, assemble and fit structural steel assemblies. The role requires strong blueprints reading, crane operation and welding skills in a dynamic North American environment.

Minimum 5 years in fitting/welding and ability to read blueprints; CWB FCAW/MCAW certification is preferred. Teamwork, safety focus and adaptability are essential for success.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of fitting/welding structural steel experience.
  • Completion of apprenticeship program in Metal Fabrication or Welding is asset.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Ability to read a tape measure in both metric and imperial.
  • Ability to operate overhead cranes.
  • Current or past CWB certification for FCAW, MCAW.
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety procedures.
  • Organizational skills and flexibility in changing priorities.
  • Excellent written and oral communication.
  • Attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
  • Analytical and problem solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Rig, hoist and move materials to and from workstation; perform crane checks.
  • Lay out reference points and symbols on structural steel per blueprint.
  • Assemble and fit metal sections and plates using tack welding, bolting or other methods.
  • Operate welding equipment to fuse metal using processes such as flux-cored arc welding.
  • Set up and operate torches, drills, clamps, squares, grinders and other tools.
  • Ensure safe work practices and wear appropriate PPE.
  • Mentor apprentices and junior fitters with knowledge and safe practices.

About the Position:

Reporting to the Team Leader, the Fitter will be responsible for but not limited to:

  • Fabricating, assembling and fitting structural steel assemblies.
  • Rig, hoist and move materials to and from workstation. Performs crane checks daily prior to use to ensure the crane is in working condition, if applicable.
  • Lay out reference points and symbols on the structural steel according to the blueprint.
  • Assemble and fit metal sections and plates using tack welding, bolting or other methods.
  • Operate welding equipment to fuse metal segments using processes such as flux-cored arc welding.
  • Set up and operate various equipment such as torches, drills, various clamping tools, squares, disc grinders and other hand held tools.
  • Ensure safe work practices are adhered to and appropriate PPE is worn at all times.
  • Mentor apprentices and junior fitters by sharing knowledge and safe work practices.

  • Princeton Fabrication Facility.
Position Requirements:
  • Minimum 5 years of fitting/welding structural steel experience.
  • Completion of apprenticeship program in Metal Fabrication or Welding an asset.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Ability to read a tape measure in both metric and imperial.
  • Ability to operate overhead cranes.

  • Knowledge of Health and Safety procedures.
  • A team player, who can interrelate and operate effectively with peers and other associates within a collegial, yet demanding, work environment.
  • Organization Skills and the ability to be flexible in managing changing priorities.

Compensation Package:
  • Wage: $23.00-$35.00/Hour
  • Vacation.
