Job summary

Nootka Marine Adventures on Vancouver Island's west coast seeks a Fishing and Adventure Guide, Casual, to deliver world‑class guided fishing and outdoor experiences at Moutcha Bay Resort. You will welcome guests, supervise boat operations, and provide instruction while upholding safety and professionalism.

This seasonal role runs July and August, with duties including gear handling, fish handling, and collaboration with the guide team.

Qualifications

  • Legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 2 years professional guided fishing experience.
  • SVOP (Small Vessel Operator Proficiency).
  • MED A-3 (Marine Emergency Duties) or SDVBS (Small Domestic Vessel Basic Safety).
  • ROC-M (Restricted Radio Operators Certificate - Marine) with DSC.
  • MBFA (Marine Basic First Aid) or equivalent.
  • Driver’s license and driver’s abstract.
  • WHMIS certification.
  • Tidal Waters Sportfishing License & Salmon Conservation Stamp.
  • Small vessel operation experience (close-quarters handling, anchoring, maintenance, cleaning).
  • Preferred: Experience with saltwater fishing in the Nootka Sound region.

Responsibilities

  • Warmly welcome guests, assist boarding, handle gear, and provide fishing instruction.
  • Safely operate vessels and transport guests to and from fishing grounds (up to 10 hrs/day).
  • Adhere to DFO regulations, complete logbooks, bleed and label fish, and deliver to processing.
  • Educate guests on fishing techniques (jigging, trolling, anchored fishing).
  • Maintain vessel safety, conduct Transport Canada approved safety orientations.
  • Monitor weather and marine conditions, maintain situational awareness.
  • Clean and maintain vessels daily and weekly; complete equipment checks and minor repairs.
  • Provide guest feedback to management and promote company programs/merchandise.
  • Collaborate with the guide team on fishing conditions, locations, and operations.
  • Assist with guest logistics (luggage, lunches) as needed and help vessels in emergencies when safe.

About the Role

The Fishing and Adventure Guide delivers world-class guidedfishing and outdoor experiences, representing Nootka Marine Adventures’ visionof “Teaching the World to Fish.” The role involves guest service, safe vesseloperation, guided fishing instruction, fish handling, and maintaining highstandards of safety, professionalism, and vessel readiness.
