Job summary

eClassify Canada Classified Directory in Nanaimo, BC, is seeking a full-time seafood processing worker to join our team. You will cut, weigh and process fish fillets to our specifications, inspect products, and package items for shipment in a fast-paced environment.

Flexibility in schedule is required: shifts from 5:00 AM to 1:30 PM or 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM; occasional Saturday work depending on weather. Education to secondary level is required; training provided on the job.

Qualifications

• Some secondary education is required.
• Experience is an asset; training will be provided.
• Basic English is required.
• Weight handling up to 45 kg.

Responsibilities

• Cut and weigh fish fillets according to specifications.
• Cut, clean and trim fish or seafood prior to marketing or further processing.
• Inspect fish fillets to determine the optimal number and size of fillets.
• Scrape away scales, cut fish, separate fillets and remove scrap parts using knife.
• Condition fish filets for wrapping or freezing.
• Check products and packaging for defects and perform corrective machine adjustments as required.
• Record production information.
• Set up and operate machines to can, bag, box or otherwise package fish and seafood products.
• Set up and operate machines to clean, cut, cook, smoke, brine, dehydrate or otherwise process fish or seafood products.
• Weigh fish or shellfish, record weight and pack fish in ice.

Job Description:

Cut and weigh fish fillets according to specifications

Cut, clean and trim fish or seafood prior to marketing or further processing

Inspect fish fillets to determine the optimal number and size of fillets

Scrape away scales, cut fish, separate fillets and remove scrap parts using knife

Condition fish filets for wrapping or freezing

Check products and packaging for defects and to ensure conformance to company standards and perform corrective machine adjustments as required

Record production information

Set up and operate machines to can, bag, box or otherwise package fish and seafood products

Set up and operate machines to clean, cut, cook, smoke, brine, dehydrate or otherwise process fish or seafood products

Weigh fish or shellfish, record weight and pack fish in ice

Clean machines and immediate work areas

Sort fish according to species, weight and destination

Freeze and lay fillets on tunnel feed belt, also could box up frozen product

Perform general extra cleanup and pressure washing, and plant maintenance

Requirements:

Education:Some secondary education is required.

Experience:Experience is an asset. Training will be provided.

Salary:$21.50 per hour, 30 – 40 hours per week.

Benefits:Piece work. After 1 year of employment, employees have access to medical expenses account for eye-wear, dental and prescriptions. Transportation costs covered if worker needs to relocate

Important information:Flexibility in schedule is required. Work schedule will be from Monday to Friday. Workers will be required to work from 5:00 AM to 1:30 PM OR from 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM. Work on Saturdays may be required depending on the weather.
