Job summary

Johnson Controls in Kitimat, BC is seeking a Fire Alarm Technician to support service, inspections and preventive maintenance on life-safety systems. The role involves low-voltage wiring, inspections, repairs, and on-the-job training.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience reading blueprints, diagrams, specifications and manuals.
  • Experience with hand tools and multimeter usage.
  • Ability to perform physical labor up to 40 lbs and work in awkward positions.
  • Valid driver’s license and driver record meeting company requirements.
  • ASTTBC / CFAA Certificate preferred; 2+ years fire and/or life-safety experience.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine inspections, testing, service, and preventative maintenance on fire alarm and life-safety systems.
  • Work with low voltage wiring and related devices for operation of equipment.
  • Complete service acknowledgements and inspections on schedule.
  • Input, retrieve and archive inspection documents on a laptop or paper system.
  • Provide technical training to inspectors and trainees.
  • Complete inspections on time and with minimal supervision.

Job description

We are looking for a Fire Alarm Technician to join our team in the Kitimat, BC area, supporting Service and Inspection work for our customers. Experienced candidates from other locations are welcome to apply, and a relocation package may be considered.

What you will do:

Technicians are responsible for performing routine inspections, testing, service, and preventative maintenance on Fire Alarm and life safety systems.

How you will do it:
  • Work with low voltage wiring and associated devices for the operation of low voltage equipment.
  • Complete Service Acknowledgements with proper coding through communication devices such as laptop computers and/or hard copy.
  • Follow and maintain a highly structured inspection schedule.
  • Input, retrieve and archive inspection documents via laptop computer.
  • Make repairs with minimal supervision.
  • Provide technical training to other inspectors and trainees.
  • Complete assigned inspections on time.
What we are looking for:
  • Required High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience in reading and interpreting blueprints, diagrams, submittals, specifications, programs schematics and operational/product manuals.
  • Experience with hand tools and multi-meter usage.
  • Capable of performing physical labour to include carrying and moving equipment and tools up to 40 lbs.
  • Able to work in unusual and sometimes difficult position such as climbing ladders, scaffolding and high lift equipment up to 40 feet, working within ducts, crawl spaces, above ceilings, etc.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including weekends to meet customer requirements.
  • Ability to adhere to, implement, and follow safety guidelines and procedures at all times.
  • Demonstrates an aptitude for troubleshooting systems and performing necessary repairs.
  • Demonstrate a high level of customer service.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Self-starter that can work with little to no supervision.
  • Strong organizational skills, positive attitude, and an ability to learn quickly.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check, as well as alcohol and drug testing, as required by certain sites.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and driving record that meets company requirements.
  • Preferred ASTTBC / CFAA Certificate 2+ years documented experience in Fire and /or Life Safety Systems.
  • Proficiency with using PCs including working knowledge of MS Excel / Word as well as iPhone apps.

HIRING HOURLY RANGE: $40 -60 (Hourly rate to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.) This position includes a competitive benefits package. The posted salary range reflects the target compensation for this role.
