Job summary

City of Mississauga is seeking a Fire Inspector to conduct fire and life safety inspections and enforce compliance under the Building Code Act. The role requires collaboration with partners to ensure public safety across multiple locations in Canada.

Applicants must hold NFPA 1031 Fire Inspector Level 1 and a post-secondary credential in Building Construction, Engineering, or related fields; advanced NFPA certifications are preferred.

Qualifications

  • Must possess NFPA 1031-1 Fire Inspector Level 1.
  • Post-secondary graduation from a university, technical or community college in Building Construction, Engineering or related fields.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and clients.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct fire and life safety inspections and enforce compliance with the Building Code Act.
  • Perform fire investigations as required and evaluate, approve and ensure implementation of fire safety plans.
  • Provide technical support and training for fire service personnel, including education duties.
  • Initiate and participate in prosecutions relating to violations of the Fire Protection and Prevention Act.
  • Maintain professional certifications and competencies and handle administrative duties.
