Description
The Fire Alarm Technician position within the Operations and Maintenance (O&M) department, part of Facilities Management, is responsible for ensuring that building systems for all university properties are operated and maintained reliably, efficiently, and cost-effectively to provide a safe and comfortable environment. The campus is divided into 6 operating zones.
The Department of Maintenance-Life Safety is seeking a full-time, regular Fire Alarm Technician. This role reports to the Life Safety Team Lead and involves work with minimal supervision. It is part of the AUPE Collective Bargaining Unit, with a typical shift of 7 hours per day, Monday to Friday, with possible shift transfers and overtime, including participation in an On-Call rotation for campus emergencies.
The department manages primary life safety systems such as fire alarm control panels, detection, communication devices, sprinklers, fire pumps, hydrants, extinguishers, chemical suppression systems, gas detection, emergency control devices, and peripherals.
The technician is responsible for installation, maintenance, repair, and testing of these systems, including assisting with campus-wide fire alarm operations. The role involves diverse and high-volume work with moderate to high complexity, requiring physical activity, including working in confined spaces, at heights, and in hazardous environments.
