Job description

LOCATION : Remote Long Range Radar Sites located in Sanirajak, NU (FOX-Main) and / or Dewar Lakes, NU (FOX-3), Location Remote Long Range Radar Sites located in Cambridge Bay, NU (CAM-MAIN) and / or Shepard Bay, NU (CAM-3)

SECURITY CLEARANCE : Reliability

POSITION TYPE : Permanent, Unionized, 6x6 Rotation (6 weeks on, followed by 6 weeks off for rest and travel)

REPORTS TO : Site Supervisor and / or Zone Manager

ABOUT US :

Nasittuq Corporation (from the Inuktitut word meaning “looking out from the highest point”) operates and maintains the North Warning System (NWS), a critical joint Canada-US radar network with 47 sites across Northern Canada.

Scope :

Reporting to the Zone Manager and / or Site Supervisor, the Chef is responsible for planning, preparing, and serving nutritious and tasty meals for employees at a remote site. This role ensures high-quality food service while maintaining strict safety, hygiene, and inventory management standards in a remote challenging environment.

What You’ll Do :

  • Plan, prepare, and serve meals in accordance with an approved cycle menu, catering to dietary restrictions and preferences.
  • Ensure a safe and sanitary work environment, including kitchen and dining area cleaning.
  • Manage food costs, inventory, and documentation, including receipt, storage, and control of supplies.
  • Regularly inspect and maintain kitchen equipment and food storage areas.
  • Implement food service in compliance with the Food Safety Code of Practice.
  • Contribute to site safety and emergency response as required.
  • Provide first aid support if needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including travel to other sites for chef functions.
  • Must be able and willing to deploy and travel to all Long Range Radar (LRR) and Short Range Radar (SRR) sites upon operational requirements.

Who You Are :

  • Certificates / Licenses : Interprovincial Journeyman Chef, or equivalent culinary qualifications AND Safe Food Handling Certification; Valid Driver's Licenses
  • Experience : Minimum 5 years of Chef experience in a hotel, cafeteria or restaurant environment. Previous camp experience is preferred / an asset. Proven ability to manage inventory and ordering processes is required.
  • Skills : Effective planning, organization, and time management. Proficient in safe food handling and quality operations. Ability to handle multiple priorities and work independently or as part of a team.
  • Cross-Cultural Skills : Must be willing and able to work in a cross-cultural environment while supporting Nasittuq’s mission and commitment to Inuit employment.
  • Remote Workplace : Ability to work in remote locations and physically demanding conditions, including adverse weather, while adhering to required PPE standards.

Rotation & Overtime : 6 weeks in / 6 weeks out rotation, 48 hours per week, with overtime paid at 1.5x your base rate for extra hours worked. Paid travel days (up to 2 days) and all travel costs covered.
