Job summary

Johnson Controls is seeking a Fire Alarm technician to support installation, commissioning, and verification tasks across projects in Canada. You will read blueprints, perform submittal verifications, and complete system acceptance tests with authorities having jurisdiction.

Travel within the district is required. The role requires CFAA coursework completion, the ability to program basic micro-processor-based systems, and strong client-facing communication.

Qualifications

  • Required completion of the five CFAA courses, pursuing the practical exam.
  • Ability to program basic operations on micro-processor-based systems without supervision.
  • Proficient with computers, Excel, Word, and Windows OS.
  • Basic troubleshooting with electronic test equipment.
  • Ability to lift equipment up to 40lbs; climb ladders and scaffolding.
  • Valid Full G driver's license.
  • Strong communication skills and customer service focus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform assisted installation, commissioning, and verification on Fire Alarm equipment.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, schematics, submittals, and specifications.
  • Complete verification reports and system acceptance tests with AHJs and others.
  • Produce As Built drawings after job completion.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of product lines.
  • Travel within the District business area as required.
  • Assist in developing employee training programs for employees and customers.

What you will do
  • Perform assisted installation, commissioning, and verification activities on Fire Alarm related equipment, including connection of devices and circuits.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, schematics, submittals, and specifications.
  • Complete verification reports for submittal to customers and carry out system acceptance tests with AHJ's and other interested parties.
  • Complete As Built drawings on the completion of the job.
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of various product lines.
  • Identify general deficiencies and code issues in the field during verification.
  • Travel throughout the District business area when required.
  • Conduct small programming modifications to an existing system with supervision.
  • Program small systems (upon training)
  • Assist in developing employee training programs for employees and customers.
What we look for
  • Required Completion of the five required CFAA courses is required, with candidates currently working toward completing the practical exam for certification.
  • Demonstrated ability to program basic operations on micro-processor-based systems without supervision.
  • Proficient in the use of computers, Microsoft excel, word, and Windows operating systems.
  • Basic troubleshooting skills with working knowledge of electronic test equipment.
  • Ability to express clear technical solutions in a clear and concise manner.
  • Ability to lift equipment and tools up to 40lbs.
  • Ability to climb ladders and scaffolding.
  • Possess a valid Full G driver's license.
  • Strong communication skills and customer service focus.

HIRING HOURLY RANGE: $26 -$30 (Hourly rate to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
